Edward Mohr

Racine- Edward Mohr, age 92, beloved husband of the late Ruth (nee: Slater) Mohr, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Thursday evening, November 7, 2013, of which appropriately happened to be Ruth’s 95th Birthday. 

Ed was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 8, 1921 to the late Adam Mohr, Sr. and Katherine (nee: Muller) Mohr. His work ethic was inspired by his formative years working on the family farm. Ed married his beautiful bride, Ruth, on December 5, 1947 and, together, raised the family that now succeeds him. 

Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the Aleutian Islands Campaign during WWII. He attained the rank of Sergeant – operating heavy equipment used in the construction of U.S. Naval bases located in Fort Raymond, Alaska.  In recognition of his unit’s achievements, Ed received a Certificate of Commendable Service. 

Post WWII, Ed was employed in Racine by various manufacturing companies. He took great pride in his skill and ability as a sheet metal worker. He retired in 1981 from Jacobsen Manufacturing. 

Ed was part of a musically-talented family, and he particularly enjoyed dancing with his “best girl”, Ruth. He was also an avid football fan. Ed’s favorite teams were the Nebraska Corn Huskers, the Wisconsin Badgers, the Green Bay Packers, and above all, the Racine Raiders. He was a lifelong fan of the Racine Raiders football team and, for more than forty years, never missed a home game. The highlight of his years in the stands took place in 1999 when he was selected as the Raiders’ “Fan of the Game”. 

Ed is survived by his three children, Gail (Donald) Toms, Donald Mohr (Donnalee Bain), and David (Cathi) Mohr. He is also survived by two siblings, Leona (Donald) Zurawski and Wesley (Jan) Mohr. He is further survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. In addition to his parents and loving wife, Ed was preceded in death by seven brothers. 

Funeral services, with military honors, will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 11:00 am in the chapel of West Lawn Memorial Park, 9000 Washington Avenue in Racine. Interment will follow. Visitation will be in West Lawn Memorial Park chapel on Wednesday from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, the Mohr family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
