
Racine – Geraldine “Gerry” (nee: Krencisz) Urban, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 with daughter Mary by her side at Oak Ridge Care Center.
Gerry was born in Racine on June 22, 1928 to the late Casimir and Felicia (nee: Lesniewski) Krencisz. She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1946, and then was employed as an executive secretary for SC Johnson. On October 25, 1947, Gerry married the love of her life, Harvey George Urban. While she worked various jobs as needed, her main focus in life was tending to her family as a homemaker.
Gerry was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Over the years, she lovingly crocheted and knitted countless hats for infants and cancer patients. She also enjoyed gardening, theater & musicals, and listening to her Native American tribal music. Above all, Gerry was dedicated to her family.
Surviving are her children, James Urban, Mary (Daniel) Clemente and Jeri Lynn Urban; grandchildren, Carrie (Donald) Selusnik, David (Angela) Gramza, Mark Urban and Justin (Elizabeth) Urban; great-grandchildren, Ariana Selusnik; Charlie and Lexi Gramza; special nephew, Robert (Rosemary) Krencisz; sister-in-law, Marilyn Nevoraski; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey; son, Michael “Mickey” Urban; brother, Robert (Josephine) Krencisz; sister-in-law, Elaine (Ed) Gryczkowski and brothers-in –law, Walter “Bud” (Lillian) Urban, Dennis (Dee) Urban and John Urban.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, on Gerry’s 88th birthday, June 22, 2016 at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-7 pm and in the church on Wednesday from 10-11 am. Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. Joseph’s Indian School have been suggested.
