Gloria M. Peterson, 86, passed away at Home Harbor of Racine on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016. Gloria was born in Roselle, Ill., on Aug. 1, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Thelma (nee: Gilchrist) Smith. She was united in marriage to Gordon J. Peterson on Oct. 14, 1950, in Rockford, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1998. Following their marriage, they made their home in Sturtevant. Gloria had worked at C & D Duck Farms for 12 years.

Gloria was a long time member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church where she served in many functions of the church over the years. She was a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary holding offices of President, Secretary and Treasurer of 9948 Sturtevant. She enjoyed many activities with her condo “Ladies.” Gordon and Gloria spent many happy years at their trailer in Shady Oaks by Little Green Lake where they made many dear friends. Gloria and her sister Mary enjoyed going shopping, eating at McDonalds, movies, Racine County Fair and going to her trailer. Gloria was happiest being with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Genette (John) Biggs; sons, Gordon (Karen) Peterson, Gary Peterson; former daughter-in-law Karen Peterson; grandchildren, Joshua Biggs, Jamie (Aaron) Jones, Nicole (Pete) Schubilske, April, Gretchen, Garrett Rachael Peterson; great grandchildren, Boyd Biggs, Madaline Jones, Quinn and Peyton Schubilske; dear nephews, Alan and Albert (Anna) Moore; grand nephews and niece, Eric (Greta) Moore, Craig, Tanya (Zach) Masella, Joey, Jason and Justin Moore; godson Mark Yates; goddaughter Susan Hale; as well as many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Smith; mother Thelma Smith-Reedy; father- and mother-in-law Sven and Elsa Peterson; beloved husband Gordon; infant son Gregory; step-mother Marion Smith; dear sister Mary (AL) Moore; step-sister Patsy (Emelio) Perez; brother-in-law Robert (Vera) Peterson; and sister-in-law Thelma Chandler.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church on Sunday, Oct. 9, with visitation at 2 p.m. and funeral services at 3 p.m. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. Memorials have been suggested to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church; Mayo Clinic; or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

There are no words to describe how thankful and loved we felt during our Grandpa’s funeral service. We are so lucky to know you as friends and we will be forever grateful for everything you have done for us and for Grandpa Mario throughout his lifetime and after his death.
