Service Details

Services celebrating Harold’s life will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Racine – Harold John Johnson, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Ascension – All Saints Hospital on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Harold was born in Cornell, WI on August 25, 1929 to the late John C. and Rose (nee: Bernard) Johnson. He faithfully served our country with the United States Army 11th Airborne Paratroopers and served in the Korean War.  While serving at Fort Campbell, KY, Harold met a beautiful young woman by the name of Elizabeth “Bea” Burkhart. They were united in marriage in Hopkinsville, KY on November 12, 1949. Harold took exceptional loving & tireless care of Bea for over 15-years in the comfort of their home. They celebrated 73 years of marriage before she passed away December 29, 2022. They are now together again forever.

Harold was employed by Azarian Wrecking for over 50 years.  He enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers, was a car enthusiast, taking Bea out to eat & visiting casinos to try their luck on the slot machines, kept an amazing tomato garden, was a bratwurst grill master and watching old time Westerns. Harold had a unique sense of humor who could always make family & friends laugh. He was truly a fan favorite!

Surviving are his children, Peggy (Dick) Kaminski, Mike (Sally) Johnson, Kathy Ippolite and Janet (Chris) Nitz; grandchildren, Greg (Lisa) Kaminski, Jennifer (Eric) Deskin, Rob (Sarah) Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Andrew (Marcia) Ippolite, Alison (Jimmy) Dakolias, Brett (Meghan) Ippolite, Jacob Nitz and Tony Nitz; great-grandchildren, Anna Peterson; Mathew (Kristen) Kaminski, Emily & Rebekah Kaminski; Samantha (Trevor) Edmonds; Jonah & Norah Johnson; Stella & Bruno Ippolite; Mason Schenk; Eleanor & Violet Ippolite; Malachi, Otto & Clara Nitz; great-great-granddaughter, Haiden Smith; sister, Margaret Mauer; brothers, Lon (Jean) Johnson and Pete (Judy) Johnson; sister-in-law, Rose Johnson; brother-in-law, Martin Halliday; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Bea” Johnson; parents, Rose & John Johnson; Elizabeth’s parents, Felix & Elizabeth Burkhart; son-in-law, David Ippolite; brothers, Bernie (Vera), Ed (Shirley) and Raymond Johnson; sisters, Rosemary (Bud) Gorton, Caroline Black and Deanie (Dick) Steinmetz; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Carl (Marie) and Hugh (Olive) Burkhart & Joe Mauer; sisters-in-law, Jewel Halliday, Bernice (Herman) Schoonover and Margurite Earhart.

Heartfelt note of thanks to the wonderful staff of St. Monica’s Senior Living, Ascension All Saints Hospital 2nd floor Nursing staff and Compassus Hospice for the loving care and support given in Dad’s time of need. May God bless all of you!

    I met Harold at St. Monica’s. A lovely gentleman. I found out he worked with my nephew Greg for years. May Harold rest in peace. God Bless!
