Helen Dorothy Rorek

Aug 5, 1914 – Apr 13, 2010

Mrs. Helen D. Rorek, 95, died at Franciscan Villa in South Milwaukee on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.  She was at Franciscan Villa for only two weeks.

A lifelong resident of Racine, Mrs. Rorek was born on August 5, 1914, the daughter of Alex and Mary (nee: Kosakowski) Grigo.  She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1932.  On June 6, 1938, she married Henry Rorek.  He preceded her in death on August 13, 1980.

Mrs. Rorek worked for Hamilton Beach before WWII.  Later, she and her husband owned and operated Rorek’s Club 20 on Racine St.  Above all, she was a homemaker that took great pride in taking care of her family.

She was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and the Holy Rosary Society.  Upon its consolidation and closing she moved to St. Mary’s by the Lake.

Mrs. Rorek was an excellent seamstress, loved baking and was able to perform these duties well into her eighties.  She also enjoyed playing in her couples card club, a group that played together for fifty years.

Her survivors include her daughter, Joyce (Rex) Rexford of Racine; grandchildren, Terri Goller of Racine, Kurt (Raynelle) Krueger of Spooner, Kathy (Curt) Botting of Racine, Aaron Krueger of Racine, Andrea (Mike) Sandvig of Chippewa Falls, Scott (Terri) Rorek of Deforest, Ken Rorek of Racine; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law Dale Krueger, dear and longtime card club friends, sister-in-law, Sue Metzger of Wisconsin Dells and Eva Garbarek of Racine; as well as  many nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Rorek was also preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Krueger; her son, Henry Rorek; grandchildren, Timothy Krueger and Amos Luebke; and sister, Stella (Ed) Doyle.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Mary’s by the Lake Catholic Church (7605 Lakeshore Dr.) on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. for the celebration of her life and funeral mass with Rev. Steve Stradinger officiating.   Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia.  There will be a visitation in the church on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 am.   Memorials have been suggested to St. Catherine’s High School.

Mrs. Rorek’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lou for the loving care and attention she provided for Helen over the past five years.

The Family of Barbara Bell

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024. Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you. Michael, you demonstrated professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state. Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief. May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)
