
Racine – Helene E. (nee: Mitschka) Herman, 81, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Helene was born in Milwaukee on April 14, 1928 to the late John F. and Meta (nee: Burghardt) Mitschka. She graduated from Mercy High School in 1946. On January 11, 1947, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Howard E. Herman, who preceded her in death on July 25, 1993. Helene was employed by Modine Manufacturing for over 35 years, retiring as the payroll supervisor. Catholic by faith, she was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church. Helene volunteered many hours of service at the reception desk of St. Mary’s / All Saints Medical Center. Born with the gift to knit, she handcrafted over 2000 newborn caps for the infants of our community at St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Pavilion. When she wasn’t working or volunteering, she enjoyed a good game of Sheepshead with her friends of the Mount Pleasant Senior Center. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family. Surviving are her sons, Mark Herman and Matthew (Therese) Herman of Racine; daughter, Margaret Herman of Oak Creek; granddaughters, Ericka and Amanda Herman; many special nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Helene was preceded in death by her brothers, Karl and Harry Mitschka; and sisters, Anita Herman and Barbara Standlee. Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 7:00 pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Private entombment will take place in the mausoleum of Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to the hospice program of one’s choice. A heartfelt note of thanks to Sally, CNA and Regina; and to the entire staff of Wheaton Franciscan- All Saints Medical Center and Hospice for the compassionate care and support in our Mom’s time of need.
