James Bogan, Sr.

Oct 1, 1928 – Mar 2, 2011

Mr. James “Scoop” Bogan, Sr., 82, passed away at WFH – All Saints and joined his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 2, 2011.

   He was born in Okolona, MS on October 1, 1928, the son of the late Andy and Pinkie (nee: McPhearson) Bogan.  He finally settled in Racine with his family in 1960.

   Mr. Bogan was a longtime member of Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Church where he also proudly served as a deacon and a member of the male chorus and gospel choir.

   He retired from Chrysler after over 30 years of service.

   His survivors include his 11 children, Walter Lee Talley of Texas, Willie Hughes, James Bogan, Jr., Johnnie Bogan, Patricia (Lillard) Darby, Mary Bogan, Jeffery Bogan, Therita Harris, Delores Bogan, Samantha Bogan and Annie Isom all of Racine; 36 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 2 great-great and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Bogan in 2002; his son, Lance Bogan in 2009 and 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

   Family and friends are invited to meet at Searching Together Baptist Church (825 21st St.) on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. for the celebration of his life and Homegoing service with his nephew, Pastor Melvin Hargrove officiating.  His burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.  There will be a visitation in the church on Wednesday from 9-10 am.
