James John Gabbey

vet
Oct 22, 1945 – May 11, 2014

RACINE – Mr. James J. Gabbey, 68, passed away at WFH- All Saints on Sunday, May 11, 2014.

He was born in Racine on October 22, 1945 to the now late Howard and Elizabeth (nee: Hannah) Gabbey.   He attended Horlick High School.  Jim enlisted in the US Air Force serving from 1963-67.  On July 23, 1977 he married Charlene Nelson.

After his military service, Jim worked for the Racine Department of Public Works.  He retired in 2001.

Jim was an avid golfer.  He was also passionate about bicycling in nature and trail walks with his wife.  He enjoyed building model semi-trucks and meeting his breakfast group at McDonalds.  However, Jim was happiest when he was in the company of his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Charlene, he is survived by his son, Phil (Magda) Gabbey, Marsha Gabbey; his grandchildren, Kayla Torres, Nahla and Liam Gabbey; his brother, Alan (Cindi) Gabbey all of Racine; his sister-in-law, Marlene (Ed) Bartlett of Markesan, WI; brother-in-law, Kenneth Carre of Racine; as well as many nieces and nephews

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon for a visitation from 2-4 p.m.  The celebration of his life will take place in the funeral home on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  There will also be a visitation from 10:00 -11:00 a.m.  After military honors, his interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park.

The Gabbey family sincerely thanks Dr. Choi, the entire All Saints Cancer Center staff; including the radiation department and nurses on the 3rd floor for all the professional and loving attention Jim received while under their care.

Thank you Mark, Mike, Mr. Langendorf, Bob Funk, & the entire staff!!
Mark & staff, you were so welcoming and loving you made us feel like we were at home. Your service & attention to detail was above & beyond anything I’ve ever seen & this did not go unnoticed by those who attended. I cannot express the gratitude we feel for making our father’s showing & funeral a peaceful, respectful, & dignified event. Mark and the entire staff are to be commended for their work and their graciousness. God Bless you all!
