Janet JoAnn Fredrickson

Nov 22, 1933 – Jul 3, 2016

RACINE – Mrs. Janet J. Fredrickson, 82, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Sunday, July 3, 2016.

She was born in Byron, Wisconsin on November 22, 1933, the daughter of Myron and Elsie (nee: Schroeder) Meltesen.   She moved to Racine in 1940 and graduated from Washington Park High School in 1952.  On October 25, 1958 she married Byron E. Fredrickson.  He preceded her in death on September 14, 2000.

Mrs. Fredrickson worked as a legal secretary since 1959, last working for Robert Weber, Sr. and Adrian Schoone before retiring in 1999.  She was an organizer and charter member of the Racine/Kenosha Association of Legal Secretaries (now, Racine/Kenosha Legal Professionals) where she held various offices and chairmanships.  She was also a charter member of the Wisconsin and National Association of Legal Secretaries.  In 1979 she was awarded the Legal Secretary of the Year.

Mrs. Fredrickson was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she served as a Sunday school teacher, nursery attendant, member of the Women’s Guild and secretary of the church council.

She enjoyed bowling, traveling, her Department 56 Snow Village collection and family genealogy.  However, she was happiest in the company of her family.

Mrs. Fredrickson is survived by her sons, Richard Fredrickson of Racine, Randal (Cynthia Cordero) Fredrickson of New Lisbon, WI and Rory Fredrickson of Austin, TX; her grandchildren, Brett Fredrickson of Union Grove, Jennifer Fredrickson of Milwaukee, Erica (Kenny Herron) Riojas-Herron of Kenosha, Carvel Graham of St. Cloud, MN; her brothers, Kenneth (Diane) Meltesen of Beverly Hills, FL, Calvin (Bonnie) Meltesen of Schaumburg, IL; her sister-in-law, Joyce Elwood of Beloit; special friends,  Roseanne Fohr and Elaine Gorelick of Racine; as well as dear nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Irma Fredrickson; her sister, Lorene Meltesen; her brother-in-law, Gene Elwood; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Vera Fredrickson and sister-in-law, Violet Fredrickson.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer (2417 Drexel Ave.) on Saturday, July 9, 2016 for a visitation from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.  A service celebrating her life will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Elias Kitoi Nasari officiating.  Her interment at West Lawn Memorial Park will take place after the service.   Memorials have been suggested to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

Janet & I were both members & Past-State Presidents of WALP. She was the kindest, most gentle woman who I know loved her family immensely. My condolences to you.
