Jean M. Barden

Nov 6, 1943 – Jun 3, 2011

Marco Island, Florida – Jean Margaret Barden (nee: Baggott), age 67,  passed away at her residence on Friday, June 3, 2011. 

Jean was born in Racine, Wisconsin on November 6, 1943 to Robert Sr. and Marcella (nee: Leavy) Baggott. Jean attended St. Edward’s Grade School and St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1961”. She graduated from St. Norbert College with a degree in medical technology. On June 29, 1968, she was united in marriage to David W. Barden. Jean and David lived in Green Bay and Brookfield, WI; Bloomington, MN and Hong Kong. They moved to Marco Island twelve years ago, where Jean was active in the Newcomers Group and AAUW, among other groups. 

She volunteered at the Rookery Bay National Estaurine Reserve, assisting the naturalist with species and habitat studies. 

Jean is survived by her husband; two sons, David (Shannon Garrett) and Jonathan (Georgie Kovacs), and grandchildren, Katherine and Finn, all of New York City. She is also survived by sisters and brother, Jane Witt, Bridget and Hans Weitkuhn and Robert Baggott, all of Racine; sister-in-law, Betty Risley of Middleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by David’s parents, Joseph and Esther Barden; her brothers-in-law, Robert Risley and Richard Witt; aunts, uncles and other family members. 

Funeral services will be held at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., Racine, on Thursday, June 9, ­­­at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.Visitation will be at the church from10:00 a.m. until time of services.Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Marco Island at a later date. Assisting the family in Marco Island: Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home 577 Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, FL.
