Racine – Jeffery J. Gorelik, 62, received the promise of eternal life on Saturday, August 25, 2012, surrounded by the love of his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Racine on April 15, 1950, son of Syl and Elaine (nee: Larsen) Gorelik. Jeff was united in marriage to Claudia (nee: Nielsen) Gorelik on July 27, 2002.
Jeff graduated from J.I. Case High School in 1968. He faithfully served his country for 12 years in the United States Air Force, earning his bachelor’s degree while in the service. Following his military service, Jeff received a master’s degree from the University of Washington. He then served as the Financial Director for the University of Washington in the forestry department. After moving to Wisconsin, Jeff was a financial consultant for the Blood Center of Wisconsin until his health no longer allowed him to work.
Jeff was an avid Packers and Badgers fan, however, the Huskies still held a warm place in his heart from his days in Washington. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Claudia, especially to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Jeff was a quiet soul but loved his family and friends greatly. He will be dearly missed.
Jeff leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of ten years, Claudia Gorelik of Racine; children, Daniel Vargas, Kristen (Fiancé: Matt Duchac) Staples, all of Racine; grandchildren, Taylor Staples, Logan Staples, Tessa Duchac, Lucas Duchac; parents, Syl and Elaine Gorelik of Racine; brother, Bob (Jane) Gorelik of Prescott, AZ; sister, Jacquie (Tom) Zanis of Racine; nephews, Lars Petersen, Garret Petersen, Zachary Gorelik, all of Racine; nieces, Marla Gorelik of Racine, Gillian Gorelik, Madison Gorelik, both of Park City, UT; aunt, Betty Larsen of Racine; special feline friends, Jazzy and Lexie; and other relatives too numerous to mention. Jeff is preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, Larry Gorelik.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, 5pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 4pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society, Countryside Humane Society of Racine, or to Claudia Gorelik for an education trust fund to be setup for Jeff’s grandchildren.
Jeff’s family would like to thank Claudia for the loving care she gave to Jeff. Also, a special “thank you” to Dr. Mullane and his staff as well as the staff at Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.
