RACINE – John “Red” Haas, 73, passed away at his residence with his wife by his side on Thursday, January 26, 2017.

A lifelong resident of Racine, he was born on August 7, 1943, the son of the late Edward Peter and Carolyn (nee: Reichert) Haas.  On May 14, 1966 he married Laurine Perino at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Red served his nation with the U.S. Army Reserve.

Red worked for many years selling industrial equipment for various family companies around the country.  He was proud of his volunteer and mentoring work for St. Luke’s Behavioral/AODA Services for over 20 years as well as his almost 30 years involvement with the Grove Club.  Red also served as past president of the Jaycees, the Racine Fourth Fest Parade Marshall and volunteered at the Community Meal Program at St. Patrick’ Catholic Church.  Red was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Laurine, he is survived by his twin daughters, Barbara (John) McLoughlin of Rhinelander, Kristin Cecil of Tomahawk; his adored grandchildren, Charles (fiancée, Nicky) McLoughlin, Karli and Courtney Cecil; his great grandson, Matthew; his brothers and sisters, Norman (Ruth Ann) Haas, Daniel (Marlene) Haas, Marjorie Malko, Bernadette (Al) Marrow, Germaine Brigman; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine Haas, Yvonne Haas, Larry Jansen; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends too numerous to mention.   Red was also preceded in death by his dear son, Brian Haas; his brothers and sisters, Greg and Gerard Haas, Rosemary Jansen, Audrey Haas, Diane (Joseph) Cook; his wife’s parents, Charles and Prudence Perino, brother-in-law, Richard Malko and sister-in-law, Rosemarie (Charles) Falkner.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Joseph Catholic Church (1526 Erie Street) on Thursday, February 2, 2017 for a visitation from 4-6 p.m.  The celebration of his life and memorial Mass will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Steven Varghese officiating.

My heartfelt sympathies, love and prayers for all Red’s family and friends. I saw him almost daily at 10 o’clock. We were acquaintances, but with all the people he knew, he always remembered my name and never, ever failed to ask me how I was doing. He listened and cared. A really great person-I will miss him and I will never forget his kindness. I’m very saddened today.

    Love, Alex

It was an honor being a friend for 31 years with Red.

The tools he gave me in recovery will forever be engraved in my mind, and heart.

Red, you never held back anything nor afraid to say what you thought or believed.
