John "Jack" Harold Stevens, Jr.

Bristol – John H. Stevens, Jr., lovingly known as “Jack”, 83, entered into eternal bliss to join the love of his life, Finny, on October 12, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts on April 1, 1932, and is one of the greatest men that God created. 

Jack, also known as Opa, Old Guy, and other loving terms, is the son of John Harold Stevens, Sr. and Margaret E. Stevens (nee: Johnson/Johanson), both born in Massachusetts. 

Jack graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1960, and prior to that, from St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN.  He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany, where he met Finny, and he brought her to Glenview, Illinois to join his family in 1956. Jack was a lifelong athlete, and he was accepted into the New York Yankees baseball camp in 1959-60 and played in Florida during the winter season. Jack was a true intellectual, and was an expert in politics, civics, and history. He taught history and civics in junior high school for many years in Northbrook, Illinois, and also coached junior high school basketball in Wheeling, IL, where he and his family lived for many years.   He was a natural born teacher, and he never tired of helping his students achieve their personal best.

Jack married the love of his life Josephine “Finny” (nee Klee) Stevens (born in Darmstadt) in Germany in December of 1955.   Finny preceded him in death in 2009.  He is the loving father of Victor Peter Cedric “Pook” Stevens (husband of Lori Anne Ipjian), Mark Christopher Arneim Stevens, and Christina Elke Karola Stevens.  He is the proud and loving grandfather of Zachary Farina, Caleb Farina and Sofia Farina.  He is also the beloved brother to two siblings:  Roderick (“Rod”) Paul Stevens of Lompoc, CA and Margaret Jane (“Peggy”) Stevens (wife of Dennis Story) of Santa Barbara, CA.

Private services were held in Racine, Wi, and internment took place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wi.  The family has suggested memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
