Karen Van Lone

Sep 17, 1952 – Jan 1, 2025

Service Details

Per Karen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Karen will be held in the future.

Karen Fink (VanLone, Britton) was born on September 17, 1952 in Kenosha. She is the daughter of Ralph and Gladys Fink (Kjorstad). Karen attended Forest Park Elementary, Lance Junior High School and Tremper High School. She then attended Carthage College, graduating with business and accounting degrees. She worked at Modine Manufacturing in Racine, where she met her future husband, Richard Britton. Karen and Richard (Dick) began the new chapter of their life in California where Dick continued to work for Modine and Karen for Nippon Denso. During a trip to Australia, they married at Kyneton Uniting Church, in the presence of her family who live there. Late in Dick’s career, at Modine, they followed an opportunity that presented itself back in Racine.

Karen and Dick lived in the Village of Wind Point, and both sailed in their boat from the Racine Yacht Club until a few years ago. Karen loved the challenges of theology and she and Dick were active members of their local Lutheran Church. Many cold Wisconsin winters were broken with months in the warm climate of Panama City, Florida. Karen was always interested in the US political process, and she was a village trustee for the Village of Wind Point, specializing in the financial aspects of the village. Karen and Dick were philanthropic supporters of Carthage College over many years.

Karen passed away at The Woods of Caledonia after a brief illness. She is survived by a brother Ron  (Chris), along with 3 children Courtney (Glenn) – their children Elijah and Reuben; Jeremy (Michelle) – their children Levi, Owen and Zachary;  and Naomi (James) – their son, George.  All of the family reside in Australia. Karen also leaves behind 3 wonderful stepchildren Chris (Racine), Steve (Atlanta) and Shawn (San Francisco).

Sorry for your loss. I worked for Karen at Modine. It was her suggestion that I change from Gateway Tech to Carthage where I earned a BA in accounting. I will forever be thankful for that.

I am so fortunate to have spent such precious time with my aunty from across the globe. So many memories shared together travelling, moving abroad, eating shrimp and crab fried rice, and just enjoying life’s less serious moments together.

Karen shared a love and compassion with everyone near and far, a legacy that lives on in the hearts marked by all who knew her.

    Forever in our hearts.

    May she rest in peace.

    With all our love.
Jeremy, Michelle, Levi, Owen and Zach Fink.

Karen was a very good friend of mine and neighbor. My husband Dan and I will miss her.
Thanks to Karen’s kids Steven and Chris who were front and center to provide Karen with the support necessary. You kids are proof of love and God’s hands here on earth.

Dear Langendorf Family,

There are no words to describe how thankful and loved we felt during our Grandpa’s funeral service. We are so lucky to know you as friends and we will be forever grateful for everything you have done for us and for Grandpa Mario throughout his lifetime and after his death. He loved you all and enjoyed sharing so many great times with you in the barbershop and as neighbors. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for all your caring ways and thoughtfulness and extend our appreciation to all at the funeral home who made Mario’s service so memorable.
