Kathleen J. Sorensen

Mar 15, 1936 – Aug 13, 2010

Kathleen Sorensen, 74, of Kenosha, passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Kathleen was born March 15, 1936 in Racine, Wisconsin, to Joe and Stella (Bilik) Shimkus. She graduated from Saint Catherine’s High School in Racine and attended Gateway Technical College.

She is survived by her daughter, Edith Kay (Donald) Floro and their children, Alyssa Marie and Annabella Josephine of Wakefield, KS; her son, John (Karen) Sorensen and their children, Erin Linquist, Kyle Lindquist and Hannah Lee Sorensen of Kenosha. She is also survived by one sister, Marie Jensen of Racine and her very good friend, Jackie Vandiford also of Racine. Kathleen was preceded in death by a son, James Sorensen III, her husband, James Sorensen Jr., two brothers, Larry Shimkus and Ted Shimkus and her parents.

Kathleen thoroughly enjoyed her career at Johnson Wax in Racine. During her retirement she enjoyed traveling to Germany, Colorado and Kansas to visit her grandchildren. Kathleen was an avid knitter, seamstress, and crochet artist. She enjoyed her “First Tuesdays” with the ladies at her home where they would knit and talk over tea and her homemade scones.

A memorial service celebrating Kathleen’s life will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a visitation from 6:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Kathleen’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
