Luetta Ruth Gayfield

Jan 9, 1954 – Aug 26, 2009

Racine – Luetta Ruth (nee: Morgan) Gayfield, 55, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Luetta was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 9, 1954 to the late Wardell Sylvester Morgan, Sr. and Mamie Rosalie (nee: Madison) Morgan. She attended Marshall Elementary, Turner Middle School, and Sumner High School in St. Louis. Luetta was united in matrimony to the late Wilmo Gayfield on October 8, 1988. Luetta was employed by Piggly Wiggly before she was forced to retire due to physical ailments. With a profound Christian faith, she was a member of Gospel Mission Ministries (Racine) before attending The Church of God (Kenosha). Luetta enjoyed reading, crocheting, and quilting. Luetta was also a social butterfly. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the midst of her entire family. Surviving are her children, Rita (Donte) Parrow of Milwaukee; Marie (Duncan) Harris Jr. of Racine; and Edwin Morgan of Reedsburg; grandchildren, Luetta, Tia and Ebony Monette; Terrance and Tyana Lambert; and Marissa Martin; brother, Wardell D. (Michalea “Mickey”) Morgan, Sr. of Racine; sisters, Emma Barry, Doris Bowens, Allie V. (Cliff) Scales and Charlene (Richard “Rick”) White all of Racine, Marie Wilks, Sarah Brooks both of West Point, Mississippi; brothers-in-law, Tommy (Coretta) Terry of Saint Louis, Missouri and George Gayfield of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Alice Gayfield of Saint Louis, Missouri; God daughter Patricia Hampton of Racine. Luetta also had one best friend April Gandy of Racine, one God sister Audrey Smith of Racine and two very special friends Pastors Breon and Karen Norton also of Racine and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents, Luetta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilmo (Jack) Gayfield, one daughter, baby Gayfield, one brother, Wardell S. Morgan Jr., and one nephew, Joseph Morgan. A Homegoing Celebration will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 am. Private interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 10-11 am.
