Mabel A. Meyer

May 24, 1918 – Sep 6, 2012

Mabel A. Meyer, 94, passed away peacefully in Aurora Medical Center-Kenosha on Thursday, September 6, 2012.  She was born in Crandon, SD on May 24, 1918, the daughter of the late George and Rosa (nee: Schroeder) Harms Sr.

On June 3, 1942, in Crandon, she was united to the love of her life, Chester H. Meyer, who preceded her in death on their 64th wedding anniversary, June 3, 2006.  While living in South Dakota, she graduated from Northern State Teachers College, taught elementary school and Sunday School for over 14 years and farmed with her husband for 23 years.  Mabel was employed by Marigold Foods as a lab technician for 13 years in Rochester, MN.  Since moving to Wisconsin, she was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Kiwanis Golden K wives.  She was known as an exceptionally good cook and baker of pies.

Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn Gibson and Catherine (Mark Frankowski) Meyer, all of Mt. Pleasant, grandson, Todd Gibson and his fiancee, Sandra Yanez, both of Oak Creek, sister, Martha Stellmacher, of Hitchcock, SD.  Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive her.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and son-in-law, Walter Gibson.

Her funeral service will be held in Emmaus Lutheran Church, 1925 Summit Avenue, Racine, on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mary Janz officiating.  Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.  The family has suggested memorials to Emmaus Lutheran Church or American Stroke Association.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to Dr. Brady Welsh and Dr. William Bjerregaard, as well as the entire staff of Aurora Health Center, for their many years of compassionate care.  A special thanks also goes to Mabel’s caregiver, Alta Dagvadash, who provided her with loving attention for the past three years.

My deepest sympathy to you. I just returned home after taking care of my son’s dogs in IL and heard of her passing. She looked like a lovely lady. Thanks again for coming to Ed’s viewing – a nice surprise!!

Testimonials

the Victor Morris Family

Can’t thank Gary and you all enough for our fathers funeral arrangements (Victor Joseph Morris) June 18th, 2020.
He would have been SO proud. So many little personal details that we were not even expecting, totally overwhelmed us. From the pamphlets to the thank-you notes and copies of the video, to the beautiful casket picture and arrangement. Pop looked as proud as he was in life. And thanks also to the very cooperative and helpful staff. We thought it would take much longer to knock this all out at our one and only meeting with Gary. We did not want to overlook, or forget to give our heartfelt thanks for such wonderful service at such a horrible time in our lives.
God Bless,
Bob Morris
