Nona G. Dahlby

Jun 4, 1937 – Oct 12, 2012

Racine –Nona G. (nee: Humble) Dahlby, age 75, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at her home on Friday, October 12, 2012.

Nona was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 4, 1937 to the late Richard Herman and Effie (nee: Beltz) Humble. She was a graduate of Sparta High School in Sparta, WI. On December 27, 1958 in St. John’s Lutheran Church – Sparta, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Joseph W. Dahlby, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2008.

For over 30 years, Nona was employed by Sears & Roebuck Co. as a sales supervisor, mainly in the paint and hardware department, retiring in 1996. She was an extremely active and proud member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she was involved in the book club, quilting group and funeral committee; and was a devoted committee member of the American Cancer Society “Relay For Life”. Among her interests, she enjoyed knitting prayer shawls, worldwide travelling (just arrived back home from a trip to Europe last week), reading, mastering new technology on her computer / iPad, and spending every available second with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Brenda (David) Olmstead, Jane (Donald) Christensen and Katrina (Michael) Koester, all of Franksville; and Kurt Dahlby of Mansfield, OH; son-in-law, David Simington of Racine; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Patrick) Pingel, Jacob (Stephanie) Olmstead; Melisa, Kylie, Ben and Heidi Christensen; Hans (Kayla) and Erika Dahlby; Emily and Tate Koester; David and Earl Simington; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Lillian and Madeleine Pingel; Olivia and Miles Olmstead; Cameron Christensen-Spencer; and (soon-to-be born), Joseph Dahlby; brother, Richard (Diane) Humble; brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) Dahlby; sister-in-law, Rosemary (Richard) Davis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and adored friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nona was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Teresa Simington; sister, Shirley (Bob) Sorenson; and brother-in-law, Roger (Bev) Dahlby.

Funeral services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Warren D. Williams, Rev. Denise Mbise and Rev. Dana O’Brien officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 pm and in the church on Wednesday from 10-11 am. In memory of Nona, memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society’s “Relay For Life” have been suggested.

Brenda, Jane, Kurt, Tina and families…Please know that I wish I could be with all of you at the services for Aunt Nona. I can’t imagine the shock and hurt you are going through right now. Your mom filled your lives with so many memories for you all to cherish and remember. She lived her life to the fullest and made sure the people in her life were taken care of and loved. Just two weeks ago I had the privilege of a big hug from Nona during the passing of the peace during our church service and as always, Nona was a bright, happy star on a Sunday morning, giving encouragement and love along the way to everyone who knew her. She is already missed here with us, but is carried in the arms of Jesus who has her safe with Him and in that we can take comfort. My prayers are with her family at this time of loss.

To the entire Dahlby family, my heartfelt condolences. Nona was very much like a mother like figure to me and I will cherish her rough exterior but soft inside persona. I am so so sorry I was unable to make it to the funeral, but had some emergency dental work that came up. Your mothers memory will always be close to my heart. Hang in there Dahlby’s. You are a great family, starting with a great Mom and Dad. ((Hugs))
