Ralph John Mohr

vet
Dec 28, 1923 – Dec 21, 2012

Racine – Ralph John Mohr, 88, was embraced in the love of his family as he passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012. He was born on December 28, 1923, the son of the late Adam and Katharine (nee: Müller) Mohr. Ralph was raised on a farm in Lincoln, Nebraska, and moved with his family to Somers, WI when he was 12 years old. Ralph answered his country’s call to duty and served in the Army during WWII.   On July 30, 1949 in the chapel of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ralph was united in marriage with the love of his life, Dorothea Jane Schliesmann. Dorothea preceded him in death on April 4, 2007.

Ralph had worked for many years at years at JI Case, and then at Jacobson Manufacturing before retiring in 1988. His upbringing on the farm laid the foundation for his hardworking attitude, and developed a love for the land that continued throughout his life. He showed that love through his gardening and the enjoyment that his efforts brought to his family. His homemade pickles were the best! Ralph also loved music and was an accomplished accordion player. Family gatherings always included sessions where he and his siblings played music and danced together. Ralph was a big Packer and Brewer fan (but was still a Corn Husker at heart), and also enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, and loved to take his award winning ’78 Mercury Marquis that he nicknamed “Big MM” to many car shows in S.E. Wisconsin.

Surviving are his children, Lynn Marie (Donald) Damaschke, Jayne Ellen Mohr, and Thomas John (Denise) Mohr, all of Racine; grandchildren, David Paul (Kendra Shumaker) Damaschke, Gretchen Ariel (Mark Nurmi) Mohr and Nathaniel Tyler Mohr, Alexander Howard and Gary Thomas Mohr; great grandson Colton Damaschke;  brothers Emmanuel Mohr, Edward Mohr, Lessly (Barbara) Mohr, and Wesley (Jan) Mohr; sister Leona (Don) Zurawski; sister-in-law Joan Mohr; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Mohr, and brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond Mohr, Harvey (Shirley) Mohr, Alexander (Lorna) Mohr, Adam (Gen) Mohr Jr., Millie Mohr, and Ruth Mohr.

The funeral mass for Ralph will be held at St. Lucy Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Avenue) at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5pm-7pm; and then in the church on Thursday beginning at 10am.

Ralph’s family offers many thanks to the staff at Ridgewood Care Center, and the Gentiva Hospice for all of their kindness and compassionate care shown to our Dad and the whole family.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

After the passing of our loved one, the time came to make the arrangements for his funeral and we couldn’t have asked for anyone more kind and caring as Mark was. He picked up on all the little details and things we held close to our hearts and made the celebration of this wonderful man’s life very special. Even playing taps along with the honor guard, Mark we can’t thank you enough…our heartfelt thanks go out to you and the staff.
Sincerely, THE GENE GRABHER FAMILY

Linda
