Raymond Theron Hammill

May 1, 1931 – Feb 25, 2011

Racine- Raymond T. Hammill, 79, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Friday evening, February 25, 2011.

Raymond was born in Racine on May 1, 1931 to the late Curtis and Ina (nee: Blake) Hammill. He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1950. On September 13, 1952 he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Joan L. (nee: Dobecki) Hammill.

An accomplished machinist, he was employed by Webster Electric, Petersen Machine and Twin Disc, where he retired as a quality control inspector in 1996. He was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a member of the Twin Disc 20 Year Club.  During his life, he enjoyed reading his bible, fishing, was a champion pool player, played 16 inch pillow ball and baseball where he earned the nickname “Rabbit” for his speed.  He loved all CW music, was a diehard Packer and Chicago Cubs fan who attended many games with his loving nephews and their families.  Above all, Raymond cherished being surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Joan; their children, Brenda (Ron) Thomas, Gretchen (Danne) Jensen and Steven Hammill; grandchildren, Kristan (Duno) Ruiz, Correy (Jeremy) Cain, McKenzy Hammill, Chelsy Hammill and Ashley Metz-Hammill; great-grandchildren, Myanna and Gavin Ruiz; Dakota, Taylor and Kamryn Cain; Donovan Ratz, Paityn Czechowicz and Aubrey Olszewski; brothers-in-law, David (Susan), Bruce and Greg Anderson; and Gene (Donna) Johnson; sister-in-law, Janice Lee and many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved son, Scott Hammill; sisters and brothers, Ellen Storbeck, Keith Hammill, Curtis (Audrey) Hammill, Jeanne Stellman and Linda Johnson.

In accordance with Ray’s wishes, cremation will take place. Visitation will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2219 Washington Ave. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 12-2 pm.  A memorial service celebrating his life with Rev. Tracy Polzin officiating will follow at 2:00 pm. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. In memory of Ray, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the family for the purchase of a permanent marker to be dedicated at a later date.

Our sincere appreciation and  thanks to the Hospice and Nursing staffs at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints for the compassionate care and support given during Ray’s time of need. May God bless all of you!

A man truly touched by God’s loving hand, a spirit that burned bright with humor, empathy, compassion, joy.  Anyone who knew him, no matter how brief, knows exactly what we are talking about.  Everybody Loves Raymond!
