RACINE – Richard Alan Luehr, 50, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care on August 12, 2010.
He was born in Waukesha on October 25, 1959, the son of Robert William Jr. and Jean Marie (nee: Tilton) Luehr. A lifetime resident of Wisconsin, he lived in Racine since 1979. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Wisconsin-Parkside, as a English and dramatic arts major, in 1988. He was an avid movie buff and loved to read.
He was employed by Marcus Theaters for more than 15 years and he also worked at Planet Video and Blockbuster video stores and did occasional online movie reviews. He also was involved in the making of the local independent movie “Entropy,” which won the Best Dramedy Award at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival in 2006.
He always had a positive attitude despite what life threw at him. His wheelchair, which he used since the early 1980s, never stopped him from doing what he wanted to do or going where he wanted to go. He had a great, contagious sense of humor and that may be his greatest gift.
He is survived by his parents and his brother Robert (Laura) Luehr III, and his nephews Andrew, Travis, and Devin, all of Racine. He is further survived by his beloved cat, Chunk. He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents William and Irma Tilton and his Paternal Grandparents Robert Sr. and Rosalia Luehr.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church in Racine on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a Memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life to begin at 6 p.m. with Pastor Dave Echelbarger officiating.
Prof. Andrew McLean says
I remember Richard well at UWP where he was an engaged and enthusiatic student of film and writing. I enjoyed having him in class and talking with him often. I wish more of my students had his determenation.
It was fun running into him at his work as well when we would renew old ties. He’ll be missed by his friends.
