Richard Paul DeHahn

Mar 31, 1942 – Mar 1, 2011

Racine – Richard Paul DeHahn, 68, passed away on March 1, 2011 following a long struggle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born in Racine on March 31, 1942, son of the late Robert and Julia (nee Czosnek) DeHahn.  Richard was a 1960 graduate of St. Catherine’s High School. On June 2, 1962 he was married to Janice D. Gunderson in St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Richard retired from Western Publishing in 2001, and then worked for Racine Unified School District until 2004. Richard was a caring and gentle man who always put his family first. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren more than anything in the world. He enjoyed watching the Cubs, the Packers, and the Florida Gators. Richard was also an athlete himself and enjoyed playing softball and bowling for many years. His favorite pastime was watching and participating in his grandchildren’s activities. Richard was very proud of his ’66 Chevy Pickup, and drove it in the Bonduel 4th of July Parade every year.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janice; their children, Randy DeHahn, and Beth (Michael) Jeppesen all of Racine, and Shawn (Kevin) Bonnin of Bonduel; 8 grandchildren, Chad, Chelsea, Ryan, and Amy DeHahn, Libby and Cassy Bonnin, Taylor and Logan Jeppesen; brothers, Robert DeHahn, Raymond (Diana) DeHahn, and Jerome DeHahn; sisters, Carol (Don) Larson, Patricia (Richard) Groothius, Mary (David) Desotell; brother-in-law, Phillip Strazzinski. He is further survived by brother-in-law Lyle Gunderson; sister-in-law Ruth Shilts; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Strazzinski.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 with Pastor Moria Finley officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00p.m. Memorials to the Multiple Myeloma Association have been suggested.

Our family expresses extreme gratitude to Dr. P. Hari and the rest of the caring and compassionate staff at Froedtert Lutheran Memorial Hospital; the Multiple Myeloma Support Group; and his friends at the Dekoven pool.
