Ruth Marie Johnson

Apr 13, 1927 – Jan 13, 2012

Racine – Ruth Marie (nee: Jens) Johnson, 84, entered into eternal life surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, January 13, 2012.  She was born in Milwaukee on April 13, 1927, daughter of the late Rudolph and Hildegarde (nee: Schmidt) Jens.  Ruth was united in marriage on June 14, 1952, to the love of her life, Belmont Hall Johnson, who preceded her in death on May 8, 2005.

Ruth graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee in 1945.  She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Harnischfeger Corporation before her retirement.  Ruth was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she was an usher, participated in the Women’s Bible Group, and a member of Woman’s Circle.  She enjoyed knitting, sewing doll clothes for the kids, bowling, and playing cards.  She was a member of Homemakers, Golden K Wives, and the Paradise Swingers Bowling Group.  She loved participating in the activities at the Parkside Senior Apartments.  Ruth will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughters, Patti (Mike) Sobolewski of Prescott, Kathi (Chuck) Van Acker of Atlanta, GA, Kris (Tom) Chiapete of Racine, Sue (Fred) Merten of New Muenster; loving grandchildren, Sarah (Kristin Rueinski) Gillmore, Arin (Josh) Staidl, Melissa (James) Scanlon, Chris Van Acker, Tom Chiapete, Matt Chiapete, Allison Merten, Rachel Merten; precious great-grandson, Cecil Staidl; sister, Carol (John Algrim) Jens of Eagle; sister-in-law, Addie Jane Stockham of Macon, MO; and other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.  In addition to her parents and loving husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her grandson, James Chiapete.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, January 16, 2012, 6pm, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Warren D. Williams officiating.  Visitation will be in the church from 4pm until the time of the service.  Private burial will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery on a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to Atonement Lutheran Church.

I wanted to express my thanks to Mike for everything he did to make things go as smooth as possible. My mother looked beautiful right down to the little details. Thank-you
