Thelma Jean Jenkins

Apr 18, 1925 – Dec 29, 2012

Thelma Jean (Nee: Griffin) Jenkins, age 87, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in Racine, after a decline in her health.  Thelma was born on April 18, 1925 in Freeman Spur, IL, to Sol Griffin, Sr. and Louise Hopkins. She married Robert C. Minued of Chicago, IL. to this union her oldest child was born. After relocating to Racine, she married Curtis F. Jenkins and four children were born to that union.

Her many years of domestic work led to a close bonding with her employers. Thelma was very active in the community, working with Neighborhood Watch and the Board of Housing. She also volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul for a number of years. Cooking, reading, and gardening were her passions, but nothing could ignite her passion as much as her family. Mother Jenkins (as she was affectionately called) was an active member of Dominion Church of Christ MPGT, where she faithfully served on the Mother’s Board until her health began to fail.  She was truly blessed with a wonderful church family.

Thelma was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Curtis F. Jenkins; son, Donald Jenkins; daughter, Cynthia Irene Hamilton; brothers, Sol Griffin Jr. and Alton Pate; sisters, Renzola Brooks, Bernice Nickens, and Virginia Giles; Sisters and Brothers-in-law. She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Rev. Robert (Wanda) L. Minued Sr. of Racine, WI, David F. Jenkins of Jackson, TN; daughter, Hedy Charlene (James) Klinger of Watertown, WI; beloved sister, Constance Fields of Sycamore, IL; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephew, sisters-in-law, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.  She also leaves a very special friend of many years, Martha Ross.

Family and friends will celebrate Thelma's life on Friday, January 4, 2013, 11AM at Dominion Church of God MPGT, 402 9thSt.  Visitation will be 10-11AM at the church.  Bishop Kelvin P. Weatherspoon will be officiating the service.  Burial will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery.

Testimonials

October 9, 2020

I would like to thank Mike Langendorf, Bill Althaus and the rest of the staff for the wonderful celebration of the life for my father Raymond L. Szymanski who was a WWII veteran. I especially appreciate how much you really listen and the questions you asked regarding who my father was and what he was all about. Those details showed up in every part of the service from the flowers, the music, the thank you’s, pictures, obituary, outdoor military honors, etc. etc. My father would have been so grateful for the way you honored his life. I also received phone calls from family and friends indicating how beautiful the service was in every way. You and your staff definitely go above and beyond. You treat everyone like family and your compassion is so genuine. There should be more people in the world just like all of you. No words can express our gratitude for all you have done for myself, my father and our family. Thank you so very much and may the Lord bless you and yours! Sincerely Terri Carls and the Szymanski Family
