Racine – Virgil C. Harp, affectionately known as Chuck, 80, received the promise of eternal life on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove.  He was born in Kenosha on January 14, 1935, son of the late Walter and Lillian (nee: Merrill) Harp.

Virgil proudly and faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He married Eileen Majeske in 1958 and they resided in Paris Township in Kenosha County.  He was employed as a manufacturing engineer at Snap-On Tools in Kenosha.

Virgil leaves to cherish his memory his son, Mark (LeeAnn) Harp of Kenosha; daughter, Colleen Harp of Racine; ex-wife, Eileen Harp of Racine; grandchildren, Brittany (Tim) Cady, Travis (Katie) Harp; great-grandchildren, Ben, E.J., and Alayna Cady, Isaiah, Logan, Jameson, and Ellie Mae Harp; and brother, Clayton Harp of Arkansas.

In addition to his parents, Virgil is preceded in death by his four brothers, Franklin, Raymond, Chester, and Hayden Harp.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, March 26, 2015, 10:00am at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, with Rev. Ken Howe officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:00am until the time of the service.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.  The family has suggested memorials to your favorite humane society or animal shelter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gerald Demers and the staffs at Wisconsin Veterans Home, Heartland Hospice, and Vitas Hospice for their compassionate and truly outstanding care that they gave to Virgil.

The Chester Harp family regrets they are unable to attend Virgil’s funeral. We have very fond memories visiting when we were young kids and Virgil teaching us how to drive the riding lawn mower. We loved the apple cider too. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers at this time of loss. Peace be with you.

The Leischow family regrets that they will not be able to attend the memorial. This space is not big enough to share all the wonderful memories that I have of Uncle Virg. He was a part of my life as a child and adult. I will miss and cherish the good times our families had. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. Uncle Virg, you will be missed!

I regret not being able to attend Uncle Virgil’s memorial service. I have sweet memories of his answering my childish letters while he was in the army. In all ways, he always showed me great love and tenderness. I will truly miss him. Uncle Virgil, rest in His peace.
