Racine – Virginia Jane (nee: Varley) Seline, age 93, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Thursday, January 16, 2014.

Virginia was born in Janesville, WI on June 16, 1920 to the late James and Clara (nee: Scarcliff) Varley, Sr. and has lived in Racine since age 6.  A 1938 graduate of Washington Park High School, she went to marry the love of her life, Charles Harry Seline, on February 14, 1939 at Holy Name Catholic Church.  During WWII, Virginia contributed to the war effort by making military airplane engines at the JI Case plant.

Although her main role in life was a full-time mother and homemaker, Virginia also had worked as a bookkeeper for M&I Bank and retired in 1985. As a devoted Catholic, she was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish where she served as an Eucharistic Minister, scheduled Communion Services with the “12 Apostles”, was active with the church “Happy Crafters” and enjoyed studying at the weekly Bible sessions. Years ago, Virginia also was a member of Holy Name Parish, St. Edward Parish and St. Lucy Parish. She was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, Red Hat Society and was a devoted volunteer at the Racine Literacy Council. Among her interests, Virginia enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards – especially Schafskopf and Bridge, gambling adventures and traveling – especially to Europe and Hawaii. She was an avid baseball and football fan. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the company of her entire family.

Surviving are her children,  Dianna (James Sr.) Nondorf of Racine; Kathy (Paul) Thomas of Franksville; Deborah J. Seline of Shawano; and Theresa Connor of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Ricky and Rusty Larsen; Patricia (Michael) Gill; James (Julie) Nondorf, Jr.; Rebecca (Rob) Idstein and Sandra (Daniel) Dieck; great-grandchildren, Michael Jr., Lucas and Andrew Gill; James “Benjamin” Nondorf; Addison and Emelia Idstein; and Calvin and Claudia Dieck; sisters-in-law, Lois Varley and Mildred Seline; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harry Seline (April 25, 1982); dear son, Richard Dennis Seline (who died at age 27, June 6, 1967); brother, James Varley, Jr.; brother-in-law, Harry Seline; and sister-in-law, Helen (Larry) Pedersen; son-in-law, William Connor (February 10, 2008).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday evening, January 20, 2014 in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, at 5:00 pm with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating.  Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Private interment will take place on Tuesday in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. In memory of Virginia, memorials may be directed to the family (which will be used for Gregorian Masses).

A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Joshua Pessin and Dr. John Byrne and all the medical staff at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints for the compassionate care and support extended in our Mom’s time of need. May God bless all of you!

It’s alway’s sad to see someone you knew, and like passed, but what a long wonderful life Mrs. Seline (to me) had, not without It’s pitfalls with the passing of Richard, and Mr. Seline, but none the less a good life. We lived In such an active neighborhood, with lots and lots of kids, and It was really a very friendly, care for one and all neighborhood. I miss the neighborhood, and people like the Selines, and on and on. To Kathy and family I offer my sincere sympathy. You all have such great memories to share with each other once again.
