Hazel Eleanor Thieme

Dec 3, 1947 – Dec 28, 2007

Racine – Hazel Eleanor Thieme, 60, died on December 28th at Froedtert Lutheran Memorial Hospital with her loving husband and her children at her side. She was born December 3, 1947 in Bangor, Northern Ireland, the youngest daughter of the late Harold and Mary (nee: Orr) Hamilton.

Hazel attended schools in Bangor, and was a competitive swimmer. After completing her education she left for London, England to work for the BBC. She was an adventurous woman and as such, later moved to Wiesbaden, Germany to work as a civilian at the U.S. Air Force Base. It was here that she met her soon-to-be husband, Dennis Thieme. On December 2, 1969, she and Dennis were married in Basel, Switzerland. In February of 1970 they moved to Racine, and they celebrated their marriage with a ceremony at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Hazel had worked at Walker Manufacturing in Racine, for Dr. Wadwanni and also as a Customer Service Representative for Midwest Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines. She was very proud of her Irish heritage; and was happiest when she was with her family, who will remember her for her fun-loving sense of humor and the enjoyment she received playing silly games with her grandchildren. Hazel loved to travel the world, and go camping with her family. She was an active and faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Brent Multer of Sheboygan Falls, her son and daughter-in-law, Ian and Christine Thieme of Racine; her beloved grandchildren, Phillip and Emilly Thieme, and Adam and Owen Multer. She is further survived by her sisters, Audrey (Mervyn) Moorhead of Bermuda, Shelia (Andrew) Berni of Long Beach, California; her brothers, James (Dilys) Hamilton and Harold (Anne) Hamilton both of Newtownards, Northern Ireland; and her sister-in-law Terri Hamilton of Racine. She is also survived by her husband’s family, Ronald and Jean Thieme, Janet Thieme and Kris Allison, Suzanne and John Sroka, David Thieme, Wayne and Rayne Thieme, Daniel Thieme, and Karen and Bill Christenson, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws Harry and Lucille Thieme; and her brother, Ian D. Hamilton, Sr.

Memorial services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 725 High Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2007 with Pastor James F. Peters officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a memorial fund in Hazel’s name through Emmanuel Lutheran Church, or to the Multiple Myeloma Support Group of Racine at the Wheaton Franciscan Cancer Center have been suggested.

    Dear Dennis and family,
Our hearts go out to you during this most difficult time. Hazel was such a neat lady, and we will greatly miss her friendly manner and her warm smile. When she spoke, even her eyes smiled, and lit up her face. She was always such a pleasure to be around. We were fortunate to get to know you both through the Racine MM support group.
You are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

To Dennis and family, I won’t be able to attend the service, but wanted to extend my heart felt grief over a much loved friend. I met Hazel and Dennis through the early years of RASA and the Women’s Soccer League. Hazel was always fun to be around. I know Hazel will be very much missed, and for those who were honored to know her, will still live in our hearts. May god keep her near him for evermore. Love Kevin Ehnert ,a old and loving friend
