Felipe J. Chavez

Aug 23, 1939 – Jan 11, 2009

Racine- Felipe J. Chavez, 69, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Sunday, January 11, 2009. Felipe was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 23, 1939 to the late Juan and Maria (nee:Jayme) Chavez, Sr. He has lived in Racine for many years. Prior to his retirement, Felipe was employed by the Oil-Dri Corporation of America. He was a passionate musician who loved playing his 12-string guitar. Above all, Felipe was happiest when in the surroundings of his entire family. Surviving are his children, Ray (Marylee) Chavez of Florida; LaVerne Chavez of Georgia; Ernie (Elaine) Chavez of Racine; and Sonny Chavez of Georgia; grandchildren, Christina and Eric Rodriguez, Raymond Jr. Chavez; Robert and Michael Martinez, Haley Chavez; Faith, Isaiah, Joy, Isaac and Grace Chavez; Nathan, Jasmine, Molly and Neria Chavez; great-grandchildren, Tianna, Gabrielle and Michael Jr. Martinez; former wife and mother of their children, Carmen Rodriguez; brothers and sisters, Trina (Manual) Muniz, William (Rosa) Chavez, Santos (Sam) Coca, Carlos (Janie) Chavez, Johnny (Maria) Chavez, Chavela (David) Mata, Rachel (John) Gallegos and Jesse (Linda) Chavez. Many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to his parents, Felipe was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy (Albert) Gomez; and brothers, Paul (Elida) Chavez and Joseph (Alicia) Chavez. Funeral services will be held in Racine Assembly of God, corner of Spring St. and Airline Rd., on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11 am with Rev. Scott Brownell officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm and in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am.
