
Racine – Abelina Vasquez, 82, received the promise of eternal life on Monday, June 23, 2014, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Kennedy, TX, on September 23, 1931, daughter of the late Eusebio and Catalina (née: Rivera) Cavazos.
Abelina was married to the love of her life, Jose O. Vasquez, on July 31, 1956, in Donna, TX.
Abelina worked as a supervisor for Goodwill Industries, Inc. for over 15 years. She loved cooking and her famous flour tortillas were a family favorite. Abelina also enjoyed all kinds of puzzles that made her think. She loved music, especially rancheras, and could also be found dancing wherever the music was playing. She looked forward to attending Mass on Sundays followed by lunch and shopping. Abelina enjoyed spending time in the garden with God’s creations. She enjoyed traveling especially to Florida and loved anything to do with Disney. Above all, Abelina treasured the time spent with her entire family. She will be dearly missed.
Abelina leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of almost 58 years, Jose Vasquez of Racine; her children, America (Roberto) Rios of Kansasville, Juanita (Jose) Perez, Jose (Margarita) Vasquez, Samuel Vasquez, Sonia (Freddy) Martinez, René Vasquez, all of Racine; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Paula Delgado of Donna, TX, Victoria (Henry) Malacara of Kenosha; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant son, Eliazar; siblings, Concha Rios, Lalo Cavazos, and Juanito Cavazos.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2014, 12:00pm, at St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Avenue, with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the Mass. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia.
