A second link of the chain was broken from the offspring of Youla V. Jones when Richard departed this earth on Monday, October 20, 2025. Richard Kenneth Jones was born on June 28, 1971 to Youla V. Jones and Richard Kenneth Tolbert. He was the last-born child of his mother’s five children. In the winter of 1979, his mother decided to move the family to Racine, Wisconsin, and this became his permanent home.

As he grew from a teenager to a young adult, Richard was like a magnet, drawing others to him with his easy-going personality, witty jokes, and kind heart. He had the charm to make a person smile just by stepping into the room. Through all of his life challenges, he chose not to harbor a grudge and made every attempt to practice the forgiveness he often sought from others.

Just recently, Richard was attending MATC, trying his hand in the business field. In his late 20’s, he received a certification from Gateway Technical College as a CNC Production Technician. Later on, he was also certified as a Horticulture Technician. He has been employed at Warren Packaging, Color Arts, and just recently, Amazon.

Some of his hobbies included watching the New York Knicks, [whom he was blessed to see play in Madison Square Garden] enjoying the Pittsburgh Steelers or playing chess or dominoes. More than any hobby, Richard loved his family, especially his grandkids! He talked about them constantly.

Richard was preceded in death by: [his Big Mom] Samiella Curtis, [his grandma] Hattie Lee Tolbert, [his mom] Youla V. Jones, [his dad] Richard Tolbert Sr., [his bonus dad] Johnny Lee Jones, and [his big sister] Angela McClenan.

He leaves to celebrate his life: [wife] Brenda Nicole Jones, [Father/Mother-in law] Earl and Barbara VanderWielen Jr, [3 daughters]; Shereka Johnson, Raven Jones, and Danesha Jones, [2 sons]; Richard Jones Jr. and Keory Jones [Wisconsin], [5 grandchildren]; Javon Scroggins [Minnesota], Trinity Spears, Quran Williams, Ashanti Jones, and Amias Cokley [Wisconsin], [4 sisters] Donna McClenan-Weaver [Texas], Dorothy (Willie) McDonald [Wisconsin], and Pamela Jones and Sheila Tolbert [Michigan], [1 brother]; Richard (Sharika) Tolbert Jr. [Michigan], [extended brothers and sisters] Earl (Barbara) VanderWielen III, Mary (Paul) Knotek, Sandi Demant (Mike) Verwey, Debbie Hillery, and John (Tammy) VanderWielen [Wisconsin], and, lovingly, a bonus young man in his life: DaJohn Thompson [Wisconsin].

Richard Kenneth Jones will be truly missed by all including a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Testimonials

Sincere Gratitude

I can’t express my gratitude enough to Mike and the Draeger-Langendorf staff for such great service provided to us, as we made arrangements to lay our brother to rest. You all went above and beyond to make sure we understood every detail there was to know, from the greatest to the smallest. When we walked out of your office, we walked out with peace, knowing that our brother was in good hands. Thank you Mike for adding that special touch to my brother’s service, that’s the kind of stuff that separates you all from the rest. Once again Thank you so much.
