Ethel Mae Lofton

Aug 11, 1950 – Aug 1, 2015

Racine – Ethel Mae Lofton, 64, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Saturday, August 1, 2015. She was born in Minter City, Mississippi on August 11, 1950, daughter of the late Louis and Mary (nee: Collins) Lofton.

Ethel relocated to Racine in 1967.  She completed her GED at Gateway Technical Institute and then graduated from Carthage College with a degree in accounting along with several other degrees.  She taught in the Racine Unified school District for 13 years; and also enjoyed working at Case Company and McDonalds. Ethel was an active and faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Gwendolyn Lofton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her siblings, Lizzie Lofton of Greenwood, Mississippi, Viola (Fred) McKinley, Leola Collins, and Robert (Paulette) Collins all of Jackson, Mississippi, Mary (Jimmie) Davis of Memphis, Tennessee, Elder Joe Lofton of Fayetteville, N Carolina, and Pearlie Blakely of Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Lofton Jr., Rev. Booker T. Smith, Harvey D. Smith, and Frankie Lee Collins.

Homegoing services will be held at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11am with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby presiding. Visitation will be in the funeral home Monday, August 10, 2015 from 5pm-7pm; and in the church on Tuesday beginning at 10am. Committal services will be private. Please consider making donations in Ethel’s memory to the American Lung Association.
