Betty Lou Leigh, 90, passed away at Froedtert South- St. Catherine’s Campus, on Friday, January 3, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Betty Lou was born in Stiles, WI on January 20, 1929, the daughter of the late Howard and Mabel (nee: Bigelow) George.
Betty graduated from Oconto High School and later received an associate degree in electronics. On April 12, 1947, in Oconto, she was united in marriage to Chester C. Leigh and shared 47 years of marriage, before Chester’s death on July 20, 1994. The early years of their marriage were spent on the family dairy farm in Lena until the family relocated to Kenosha in 1960. Betty had been employed by Warwick Electronics and retired from Abbott Laboratories in order to own and operate Boy Blue Ice Cream Store, before permanently retiring to Tampa, Fl and Wisconsin Dells with her husband Chester. Chester and Betty loved to travel and took many trips across the US, Canada, and Mexico, and particularly loved Hawaii. More recently, Betty had moved back up north to Lena, WI before returning to Kenosha to be closer to her children. Betty was a member of the Women of the Moose Kenosha Lodge 286.
Betty, a devoted wife and mother, was a fiercely independent woman and a true redhead throughout her life. She was smart and worked incredibly hard but loved to have a good time, laugh, and dance. She was well read and an excellent conversationalist. Betty was honest in her assessments and always a person to have in your corner. She took great care in her appearance, was a sharp dresser, an excellent cook and homemaker, and loved to host loud and boisterous holiday parties with her beloved sister, Jane Christman. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her three daughters, Cynthia Leigh, Becky (Glen) Mattox, and Jennifer (Robert) Blasi; three sons, Patrick Leigh, Mike (Esther) Leigh, and Kevin Leigh; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, and beloved husband, Betty was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, and her grandson, Aaron Leigh.
