Racine – Jean Victoria (nee: Roman) Federico, age 92 years young, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

Jean was born in Chicago, IL on January 22, 1933 to the late Dominick and Rose (nee: Coppola) Roman. She attended Pressing Grade School and graduated from Schurz High School, both in Chicago. Jean began her career as an executive secretary for Fairbanks Morse in Chicago. During that time, friends set Jean up on a blind date with a handsome fella by the name of John Paul Federico. Sparks flew, and they were united in marriage on November 21, 1959 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Chicago. Jean resigned from her position to fulfill her dream of being a stay-at-home mother to her three children. Years later, after they were grown, Jean became an executive secretary for the GD Searle Pharmaceutical Company, from where she retired.

In 2000, Jean & John came to Racine to be closer to their family. Sadly, John passed away 9 months later on December 15, 2000. Following, Jean became extremely active with the Goodwill Grandparents’ Volunteer Program where she was assigned at various local schools to tutor & mentor students. Jean was recognized by the Racine Journal Times for her many hours of labor & love given to the children in our community. She loved being part of that program. Jean was also a proud & faithful member of St. Lucy Catholic Church where she was involved with the Altar Society, Catholic Women’s Club and established lifetime friendships with fellow parishioners. When she wasn’t with her family, Jean enjoyed gardening and knitting.

Surviving are her son, Paul Federico; daughter, Jeanine (Ken) Doubek; daughter-in-law, Dale Federico; grandchildren, Anthony Doubek and Richard (Jenna) Doubek; great-granddaughter, Apollonia Rosina Doubek; 7-year old canine white schnauzer sidekick, Lucy; nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was greeted in Heaven by her beloved son, David John Federico; sisters, Marie (Joseph) Valentino and Eleanor (Edward) Bredemann; and by John’s parents, Cono and Antoinette Federico.

A special note of thanks to Heartland Hospice – especially Brittany and to Robin from Senior Helpers for the compassionate care and incredible support given to our Mom in her time of need. May God bless all of you!

I was so lucky to meet Jean when I delivered her mail over by Mallard Shores. Always a pleasure to chat with her and hear about the antics of the kids at school. My heart goes out to her family.

Testimonials

David Fleury

Mike,
Words cannot adequately convey our gratitude for all you did to honor our family member and friend, Mert Fleury. Like with her husband Ray, years ago, you and your staff went above and beyond to help us through this difficult time and to give Mert a wonderful celebration of her life. Every detail was considered, all of our requests were given unfailing attention, and the little extras took our breath away. Every sad feeling and every tear was matched two-fold with feelings of gratitude and comfort because of what you did. We will be forever grateful!
The Fleury Family
