Emma Jean Turner, 88, received the promise of eternal life on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  She was born in New Albany, MS, on November 11, 1931, daughter of the late El and Ellen (Nee: Gray) Barker.

Emma was united in marriage to the love of her life, Terrel Turner, on August 3, 1947.  The two relocated from MS to Racine, WI in 1949.  Terrel preceded her in death on January 21, 1985.

She was a member of St. Paul MBC for 50+ years where served on the Mother’s Board, Senior Mission and she regularly attended Sunday School.  She was a housekeeper for several healthcare institutions but retired in 1996 from Lincoln Village Convalescent Center.  She was grateful to be able to still live in her apartment, taking care of her daily tasks including preparing her own meals.

Emma leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Dorothy (Clarence) Green, Rose Turner-Hooker; grandchildren, Gwen (Larry) Latiker, Stephanie Woods, David (Christonya) Green, Melissa Green, Terrence (Birgit) Hooker, Latisha Hooker; great-grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Mariah, Brittany, Jordan, Jada, Amaria, Amir, Terrell Niara; great-great-grandchildren, Jamier, Jrue, Miah, Charli, Jalia, Sarai, Christopher Jr; special nephew, Wilbur Pickens (Memphis, TN); sister-in-law, Grace Turner; brothers-in-law,  William Turner, Joseph (Jennifer) Ticer; special friends,  Edna Fletcher (45+ years), Mother Dora Cleveland, Josephine Wilson (cousin), Virginia Arthur (cousin), Marty Karls; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to her husband, Emma is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Linda Sue Turner; son-in-law, Archie T. Hooker;  brothers, Tommie Lee Fleming, A.V. Barker; brothers-in-law, Henry, George, Othello, Vivian, Ivora (Mary), James Turner; sisters-in-law, Lura Kirk, and Lucille Turner.

A celebration of Emma’s life and homegoing will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020, 11:00am, by live stream only, with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby I officiating.  Viewing will be available by stream from 10:00am until the time of the service.  The stream link is https://youtu.be/PDuF2kAgE4Y.  Click on the link OR copy and paste the entire URL into your internet browser. Private burial for the family will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Acknowledgments:

Our family would like to thank you all for your kind acts during this most difficult time.  Thank you all for your patience as we have faced challenges due to the current health crisis.  God has shown himself faithful through all of this.  Special thanks to Chris Daniel (at his home in Arizona) who worked non-stop to create the music playlist for the viewing time and for coordinating and finalizing the order of service.  He also graciously agreed to sing a tribute to Mom during the service – His Eye Is on the Sparrow.

You gave to so much to our family, even when you didn’t have much to give. I’ll never forget your laugh, your smile and the many holidays where you made the best fried corn in the world.

    Much Love to you.

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)
