Joyce Collier Price, age 79, passed away unexpectedly March 20, 2024.  Joyce was born on February 28, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Willie Collier Jr. and the late Jewel Ernestine Collier (Halfacre).  In 1967, her family moved from Starksville, Mississippi to Racine, Wisconsin.  But not long after, Joyce took residence in Kansas City, Kansas. She was united in marriage in Racine, Wisconsin to Mr. Thomas J. Price in 1978, until the time of his death.

Joyce confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. E.D. Harrison at Griffin Chapel Methodist Church in Starksville, MS., but as an adult studied with The Jehovah Witness for several years and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she was later baptized. Joyce attended the Henderson Learning Center and Henderson High in Starksville, Mississippi, but would earn her High School Diploma in her later years.  After receiving her high school diploma, she enrolled at Gateway Technical College, earning her diploma in Data Processing Machine Operations.  She was very proud of her accomplishments, and it showed.

She worked alongside her mother in her beauty shop and in clients’ homes while living in Starksville.  She held various positions over the years including the American Roller Company, Kelly Services, last working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Becker Shoop/Lincoln Lutheran Nursing Home, until she was no longer able to work.  She took up her pastime loves of sewing, crochet, cooking for everyone, rummage sales, and fixing on anything (even cars) that needed to be fixed, she would make it work.  The love she had for fashion was impeccable, looking like royalty.

Joyce was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys since the late 1960’s.  Her knowledge and love for the game was incredible, and she also enjoyed watching golf, tennis, and the Kentucky Derby.

But her children and family were her everything.  There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.  And the love she has for us all, priceless!  Joyce fought long and hard while battling illness.  The determination, strength, and trust she had in God made her invincible.  She never gave up the fight, she never stopped trying.

Joyce leaves to cherish in memory her children; sons Troy C. (Julia) Collier Sr., Andrea’ Ashford, Juan P. Collier; daughters Sonya Y. Collier, Monica Collier and Ceonia Paytes.  Stepchildren; Tawana (Carlos) Price Williams, and Thomas J. (Kim) Price Jr.  Her beautiful grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; Tasia S. Collier White, Jeffrey L. Searcy Jr., Brennan M. (Leticia) Collier, Sergio D. (Delina) Collier-Young, Darnesha Collier, Xavier R. Collier-Searcy, Atia S. Collier-Turnbough, Troy C. (Desiree) Collier Jr., Kejuana Collier, Markayla Collier, De’Era (Savone) Matlock, Jaliin Collier, Dorien K. Collier, Barry D. Simpson, and Ramele Paytes.  Joyce has 25 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, with a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends, too numerous to name.

She also leaves to mourn, her brothers; Rickey J. (Marsha) Collier Sr., Wendell (Cynthia) Bowen, Ollie L. Collier, her only sister Tuwonia Collier and oldest living aunt, Mrs. Sally Miles of St. Louis, MO., life-long best friends, Margaret Liggins of Kansas City, KS.; Evelyn Smith of Killeen, TX., and Sharon Bear of Racine, WI.

She was preceded in death by both parents and grandparents; brothers, Carl E. Bowen and David Collier. Granddaughters; Keyuana Collier, Carmen Searcy, step grandson, Kiron Price.  Daughter-in-law, Tammy S. Collier, and her special cousin, Irene Strudwicks.

Homegoing services will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 am with Rev. T.L. Howell officiating. Viewing will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00 am.

Testimonials

October 9, 2020

I would like to thank Mike Langendorf, Bill Althaus and the rest of the staff for the wonderful celebration of the life for my father Raymond L. Szymanski who was a WWII veteran. I especially appreciate how much you really listen and the questions you asked regarding who my father was and what he was all about. Those details showed up in every part of the service from the flowers, the music, the thank you’s, pictures, obituary, outdoor military honors, etc. etc. My father would have been so grateful for the way you honored his life. I also received phone calls from family and friends indicating how beautiful the service was in every way. You and your staff definitely go above and beyond. You treat everyone like family and your compassion is so genuine. There should be more people in the world just like all of you. No words can express our gratitude for all you have done for myself, my father and our family. Thank you so very much and may the Lord bless you and yours! Sincerely Terri Carls and the Szymanski Family
