Arthur Cornejo, 89, passed away at his residence on July 1, 2022, with his loved ones at his side. He was born in St. Louis, MO on December 23, 1932, the son of Geronimo and Soledad (nee: Montano) Cornejo.
Arthur had been employed by McDonald Douglas as a tool and die maker for over 30 years and worked on the initial spacecrafts before he retired. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and is a member of the American Legion. Arthur was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church serving as an usher, working the fish fries, organizing the First Friday’s breakfasts and children’s Halloween parties with his wife, Carol, and served as the church Santa Claus.
Arthur was an accomplished ballroom dancer, loved traveling, shooting pool, playing Bocce ball, snow blowing for the neighbors while they were at work and gardening. He was so proud of his landscaping. He was known as a jokester. He had an infectious smile and lived life to the fullest. He had an amazing positive attitude right to the end. He was always a generous and loyal friend who would give you the shirt off his back and then some. Arthur loved people, and people loved him. He was a friend to anyone he met.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and Green Bay Packer fan who proudly displayed his one share of Packer stock. His favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas, and he had many costumes to prove it.
Surviving are his wife, the love of his life and soulmate, Carol; her daughter, Laura Busch; two grandchildren, Garrett and Jacqueline Busch, all of Racine, and his beloved furry companions, Benji and Chloe. His nieces, nephews, and many, many friends also survive him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ASPCA, St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, or the Christopher Reeve Foundation for Spinal Cord Injuries.
A special thank you to the Zablocki SCI staff who helped us keep Arthur going for seven years, especially RN, Marlo, who always made him laugh. Heartfelt thanks to Home Instead bathers Kelly, Shirley, and particularly Jennifer, Arthur’s favorite baseball buddy.
