Dean Allen Kovacik

Service Details

His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, September 4th at 12 O’clock Noon. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Clement J. Zablocki VA Center, 5000 W. National Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53295 or Amedisys Hospice, 16655 W. Bluemound Rd. Brookfield, WI 53005.

Dean A. Kovacik, 76, passed away at his residence on Friday, August 22, 2025. He was born in Racine on March 20,1949, the son of the late Edward and Beverly (nee: Otto) Kovacik Sr.

Dean was a graduate of William Horlick High School. After graduation Dean was drafted into the U. S. Army and was assigned to the Military Police. He was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Later, he was transferred to Kansas City, Missouri. There he was inducted into the Military Police. His duties included regular police duty, traffic control, airport control, meeting dignitaries, picking up A.W.O.L. soldiers, and working with local police and the F.B.I. On June 7, 1986 he was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggi” Sonka.

Dean followed his father’s career as a roofer, working for Racine Carlson Roofing, and was a loyal member of the Roofers Local 65 A, retiring in 1995 as a foreman. In his retirement years, he drove for Durham Bus Co. Dean enjoyed the time spent with the Classic Car Club, hunting and fishing at the family cottage in Montello, tending his vegetable garden and sharing its produce with family and friends, boats, volunteering as a driver for the DAV, and helping anyone, anytime, and any place where his services were needed.

Surviving are his wife, Peggi; their six children, Scott (Stacey) Kovacik, of Pleasant Prairie, Bret (Tammie) Kovacik, of Racine, Cory (Lexi) Kovacik, of Burlington, Maria (Gary) Houck, of Cottage Grove, MN, Solomon (Amanda) Powell, of Delvan, WI, and Olivia Grable, of Oshkosh; fifteen grandchildren, Dylan (Ashleigh) Kovacik, Katie Kovacik, Georgia Kovacik, Bob McDonald, Cheyanna Kovacik, Jordan (Joanna Cason) Kovacik, Brady (Natalie) Nemoure, Oksana Haas, Markaria Haas, Elazar Haas, Russell Powell, Charity Powell, Aberlin Powell, Grace Schellinger, and Titus Schellinger; two great grandchildren, Saylor and Jasper; five siblings, Sandra Thielen, of Racine, Colleen ( Michael) Gaynor, of Oak Creek, Jay (Mary) Kovacik, of Camp Douglas, Jeffrey Kovacik, and Kurt (Patti) Kovacik, all of Racine. His nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and two sisters-in-law, Edward “Butch” and Sheri Kovacik Jr., and Barbara Kovacik.

 

 A special thanks of appreciation to the VA in Milwaukee the VA in Union Grove, and Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care given to Dean.

    Dean was a fun member of The Classy Cruiser Car Club. We all enjoyed the camaraderie and his infectious laughter. He will be missed. by all of us.
