Dolores A. Burke

Jun 26, 1923 – Jul 21, 2014

~~Dolores A. Burke passed away at 91 on July 21, 2014.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burke; daughter, Patricia (Burke) Jamieson; parents, Frank & Louise Miller; brothers: Bernard, Norman, and Richard; sister, Lucille Lichter; brothers-in-law: John Gyurina, Harry Fischer, Stanley Penczykowski, Emmett Burke and William Gursky; and sisters-in-law: Betty Miller and Helen Burke.

She is survived by her daughter, Ardis; son, William; and daughter, Barbara Burke Sabinash (Steve);
grandchildren Jessica Genrich (Adam), Audra O’Brien (Timothy), Breena Dodot (Daniel), Dain Griffin (Molly), Grace Jamieson, and Nicholaus Jamieson; great grandchildren Colin, Alyssa, Jaya, Skye, Connor, Madelyn, Samuel and  one expected birth; brothers and sisters, Joyce Gyurina, Frank (Dolores) Miller, John (Helen) Miller, Geraldine Gursky, Gladys Penczykowski, Jean Fischer; sisters-in-law Phyllis Miller and Vivian (Miller) De Groot; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dolores met Robert at Webster Electric after the war, and married him on July 3, 1947.  They made their home in Racine, WI, where they raised their four children. Dolores loved to garden and cooked amazing, healthy meals with the foods she harvested, canned and preserved.  She was always prepared to give her family her very best.

She was a hard worker, industrious and frugal.  If she wasn’t beautifying her house, she was working in the yard, or shopping, or meeting with people.  She lived her life with a sense of style and beauty.  She was modern in her thinking and always looked for ways to make her home lovely and interesting.

Dolores worked at St. Catherine High School for a number of years, and made a positive difference in the lives of many young people there, with whom she kept in touch over the years.  Even though she ran her own successful cleaning business with clients in Racine, Kenosha, and Milwaukee for several years, her over-riding passion was reserved for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she delighted in the details of their lives.

During the last few years, as she lost more and more mobility, Dolores faced this new struggle with courage and faith.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:15 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, 3035 Drexel Avenue, Racine, WI. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 10-11:15 am.  Private interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover.

Testimonials

Joan Schrader and family

We want to thank Mike for the kindness and special attention he gave us for our mother. Marcella Conley. He came in the middle of the night himself to pick her up and take her to the funeral home. For the things that had to be taken care of, he told us not to worry; that it would be taken care of by him. Thank you also Mike for singing at her funeral, especially her favorite song, Amazing Grace. Thank you and all of your staff at Draeger-Langendorf.
