Irene J. Strudwricks

Mar 21, 1945 – Sep 14, 2022

Service Details

Her Homegoing Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Buddy Vinson officiating. The visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Irene Joyce Strudwricks Turner of Chicago completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. She was born March 21, 1945, the daughter of the late Richard F. Strudwricks and Verlee (Strudwricks) Turner in Chicago, IL. She was raised from the age of 4 to the age of 12 by her late grandmother Bessie Thomas in Starkville, MS. “Mama Bessie” was very stern about 3 things in life – church, school, and chores.

She returned to Chicago in 1958. She attended Jacob A. Riis Grammar School and Richard Crane High School. She was blessed with her only daughter Cindy Linda (Lue) Strudwricks. She married the late James T. Turner in 1973. There were no children to this union.

She was a member of Greater St. John C.M.B. Church and served on the Ways and Means Committee in Chicago. She joined York Star Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star in 1989, under the Lady Amy Acres W.M.  In 1999, she held the position of Worthy Matron of Bath-Sheba Chapter #23. Two years later, she became Grand Most Ancient Matron of the Heroines of Jericho and Grand Associate Matron of York Star Grand Chapter, under the Lady Dorothy Ann McCullough G.W.M. under St. Mark Grand Lodge, Chicago.

Irene worked all of her adult life. She retired from Injector Mold Inc. of Chicago, in 2006 after 33 years of service.

Irene’s faith helped strengthen her in life when those who were most precious to her went home to the Lord before her: Cindy, her only daughter, her beloved grandson, Erick D. Harris, her younger sister, Monzene Strudwricks, and brother, William Corey Turner.

She is survived by her family: one sister Mrs. Cynthia A. Bowen (Wendell) (WI), a nephew Vincent E. Bowen (Crystal Whiteside) (WI), a great nephew Miles X. Turner (WI).

Cousins: Lois Childs- O’Neal (MS), Joyce Collier (WI), Rickey Collier (WI), Ollie Collier (WI), Tuwonia Collier (WI). Two adopted daughters Linda (Lo)Walton Taylor, (Cindy’s BSF) (IL.) and Carmen Mercado (IL) and a host of other grand nieces and nephews (WI). And many lifelong friends: Mrs. Anie D Gillespie (MS), Mrs. Allee Cobbins (IL), Ms. Sarah L. Pagie (IL). Ruby Kinard (IL), Mr. & Mrs. Harold & Belah Chapman (IL), Suzy Kelly (IL).

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Many thanks to Bob and the staff of Draeger-Langendorf. This has been the hardest of times in my families lives and you were very attentive and helpful with all that needed to be done. The tribute that you created for my mother was beautiful and I shall not forget it. God bless all of you.
