Racine – Janet Ann Aiello, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, May 22, 2026, wrapped in the love of her extended family. She died at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, which had been her home for the past few years.
Janet was born in Racine on April 17, 1935, to the late Nicholas and Rose (nee: Scholzen) Ludwig. She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1953 and was later pinned as a Licensed Practical Nurse. On November 26, 1955, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Janet was united in marriage with Mario C. Aiello. To this union, seven daughters were born. Mario preceded Janet in death on April 15, 2018.
Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Once all of her children were school-aged, she continued her education and subsequently worked at St. Catherine’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center– first as a surgical tech and then as an LPN in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In the ICU, she provided compassionate care to her patients, keeping a vigilant watch and holding the hands of many.
Janet retired in the 1990s to enjoy more time with her grandchildren, which included caring for several of them while their parents worked. Janet was clever, ever patient, and caring. She was a fun and loving grandma who always had a smile and never a harsh word for her grandchildren. She was beloved by them all.
Janet was a member of Saint Lucy Catholic Church. During her life, she enjoyed science, crosswords, reading, chocolate, estate sales and gathering with her extended family and life-long friends.
Surviving are her 7 daughters: Nicala Aiello, Lisa (Jose) Toraño, Eva Aiello-Larrabee, Anna (Gary Ricchio) Aiello, Theresa (Robert Surdyk) Aiello, Christa (Geoff) Thompsen, and Rosemarie Aiello; 15 adored grandchildren: Janette (Johnny) Toraño-Folsom, Tony (Cindy Guzman) Toraño, Jessie (Adrian Oliver) Toraño, Mario Toraño, Lucia (Mitch) Nyffeler, Juan Carlos Toraño, Daniel Larrabee, April (Kyle Heusdens) Larrabee, Matthew (Brielle) Rinehart, Nick Thompsen, Christopher Thompsen, Madeline (Henry) Adkison, Jack Aiello-Kimberlain, Amanda (Tony) Chaudoir, and Amalia (Rolando) Morales; 25 dear great-grandchildren; 2 precious great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Fran Aiello; Matt Rinehart; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends – too numerous to mention by name.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Alex Trevino Jr.; sisters: Barbara Kelly, Mary Elizabeth Terselic, and Rosemary Ludwig; brothers: Lawrence Ludwig and Dr. Richard Ludwig; Mario’s parents: Ralph and Mary (nee: Mazzie) Aiello; and brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Carmella Natale, Alfred and Eve Aiello, Edward Aiello, Rae Ludwig, Joe Terselic and Richard Steberl.
