Janet H. Burlingame, 89, formerly of 1110 S. Sunnyslope Drive, passed away at the Aurora Medical Center, Mt. Pleasant on the morning of January  2nd, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and heart disease.  She was born in Racine on October 8, 1935, the daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (nee: Woodward) Ludvigsen.  Janet graduated from Washington Park High School, Class of ’53.  On April 18, 1959, in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage to Harry J. Burlingame and was a lifetime member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.  Janet was a stay-at-home mom who was active as a room mother when her daughters attended Goodland Elementary School.  She also volunteered with the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary with her sister-in-law, Laura Ludvigsen.  Janet’s family believes she missed her calling to work in interior design, as she enjoyed decorating, took pride in her home, caring for her family by cooking and baking and was happily married for 62 years.

Surviving are her two daughters, Jody L. (Richard) Wagner, Holly L. (Lee) Maurer; grandson, Jerry A. Maurer; brother, Tom Ludvigsen; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Paul & Karen Burlingame, her nieces, other relatives, and friends also survive her.  In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Burlingame; mother-in-law & father-in-law Ruth & Harry W. Burlingame; sister-in-law & brother-in-law Lorraine & Daniel Kaufman; sister-in-law Laura Ludvigsen and niece, Amy Ruth Burlingame.  In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a monetary gift in Janet’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.

Funeral services will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:00 am with Rev.  Steve Samuelson officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday, January 13th, from 10:00 – 11:00 am.

Great memories of growing up in such a great neighborhood with the Burlingames as our neighbors. Fond memories of playing in the backyard in the cute dollhouse. Even in our adult lives I have kept in touch with Jody. The last few years you both took such great care of your parents. So glad I got to visit with her recently. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Jody and Holly, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you mourn the loss of your dear mom. We will always remember the Burlingame family on Ostergaard Avenue as our beloved neighbors across the street. I’m so sorry we can’t be with you for the services, but we are there in spirit.

Jody and Holly, So sorry to see that your mom has passed. She was a delightful lady and raised two beautiful daughters. May all the memories you created together comfort you and your families during this sad time. Praying for your families.

Janet and Harry lived two doors up from us on Ostergaard many years ago. They were great neighbors. Deepest sympathy to your family at this time.
