Service Details

Homecoming Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line RD., Racine, WI. Rev. Robert Lee Harmon will officiate the homecoming celebration.

 

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service.

 

His interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.

Kendrick Lydell Portis, age 44, departed this life on Friday, October 1, 2021. He was born on August 25, 1977, to Alice Faye Portis and Elijah Ellington in Demopolis, Alabama. He graduated from J.I. Case High School in 1995. After high school, Kendrick moved to Madison, Wisconsin and worked at Mayflower Moving Company for many years. Kendrick enjoyed sports of all kind.  He played youth football, Optimist and AAU basketball, and on the J.I. Case basketball team. He had an intense love of the music of Tupac Shaker and he loved the Chicago Bears. He was a loving father, son and friend. He loved his family and was helpful to many of them.

Kendrick leaves to cherish his memories: daughter Jaida Faye Portis of Madison, WI; like a son Devin Rhodes of Madison, WI.; mother Alice Portis- Patterson and sister Janae Patterson of Racine, WI; father Elijah Ellington of MS; step-sister Tracy Patterson of Tupelo, MS; niece and nephews Kayleigh, Kasey, and Keyori; half-brothers Elijah JR, Craig, and Fredrick Ellington of MS.; aunt Dawn Portis (Shaun) Webb of Boston, MA; uncles Raymon Harmon of Cuba, AL; James (Shelia) Portis of Parkland, FL.; Torris and Luther Portis of Boston, MA; great aunt Mary Thomas of Mobile, AL;  great uncles Robert (Sealeaner) Harmon of Oxford, MS and Arthur (Zenoria) Harmon of Racine, WI. Special friends and cousins Dominic Cantrell, Michael James, Jessica McCray, Veroncia Harmon, LaShall Craigen, Latrennia Harmon, Marlo Harmon, Arras Martin, Jimmy Horne, FlaTria Horne-White, and Ontrayell Stinson. Kendrick was preceded in death by his step-father Roy Lee Patterson and maternal/paternal grandparents.

A Homecoming Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line RD., Racine, WI. Rev.     Kendrick and I have been friends since middle school in Georgetown. I just found out he passed I’m very sorry for your loss. He always made me laugh, we took care of each other years ago in 16 he was sick n I had surgery so we both layed in bed n took care of the other person.
