
Racine- Margaret Jane (nee: Christen) Brown, age 90, passed away peacefully at Artisan Assisted Living Center in Racine on Tuesday, November 26, 2013.
Margaret was born in Luckey, Ohio on October 8, 1923 to the late Godfrey and Anna (nee: Jurgens) Christen. Following graduation from high school, she went on to attend business college in Toledo, OH. Margaret met a handsome young man, Peter P. Brown Jr., who was from Racine but was working for the United States Government during WWII in her hometown of Luckey, Ohio. They were married on June 15, 1945 in Zion United Methodist Church – Luckey, Ohio. Following the War, Peter and Margaret moved to Racine.
As an accomplished bookkeeper, Margaret ultimately retired from her favorite position of 25 years at Johnson Home Furnishings. She was a longtime member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she volunteered and participated in various church activities. Among her interests, Margaret enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, entertaining for the holidays, and spending time with her club friends.
Her loving survivors are her sons, Lawrence (Joan) Brown and David L. Brown; grandsons, Steven and Kevin Brown; and by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Peter P. Brown, Jr. on October 2, 2008; brother, Lester W. Christen; sisters, Luella (Harvey) Helm, Verna (John “Jack”) Swartz, Hazel (Fred) Kanke, Marie (Merle “Hank”) Walter, Della (David) Walter and Gertrude (Lloyd) Winslow; and by Peter’s parents, Peter and Anna (nee: Nielsen) Brown.
Funeral services will be held in Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Warren D. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 9:30 – 11:00 am. In memory of Margaret, memorials to Atonement Lutheran Church or Hospice Alliance have been suggested.
A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Pudzisz for the compassionate care given to both of our parents over the years; and to Artisan Assisted Living and Hospice Alliance- especially Arcelia… for the gift of care and support given in Mom’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
