Phyllis Lynn (Wilson) Sell, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 2, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with COVID pneumonia.

She was born in Middletown, Connecticut, on August 22, 1946, to Angus Griswold and Phyllis Margaret Burgess.  Phyllis met Sanford Scott Sell in Groton, Connecticut, and one year later was united in marriage in Mystic, Connecticut on October 23, 1965.

After high school Phyllis worked at Traveler Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut, until she met Sanford.  Phyllis and Sanford lived in Yosuka, Japan, where Sanford was stationed for two years while serving in the U.S. Navy.  This is where they started their family, before moving back to Racine, WI.

Phyllis was a dedicated mother, first and foremost.  She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them.  She especially loved her role as Grandma.  She had a kind personality and always made people feel at ease.  Phyllis always had a smile on her face and kind words for whomever she met.  She loved spending time in the kitchen baking and making her famous deviled eggs, playing brain teasers, word searches, and being the glue that held the family together.  Her grandchildren will forever cherish the moments of having sleepovers, baking cookies, getting “circles,” and being spoiled rotten by their G-Ma.

Surviving are her husband, Sanford, her four children, Kerrie (Scott) Kauzlarich, Dan (Lisa) Sell, Brian (Maria) Sell, and Amy (Heather Hansen) Sell; her nine grandchildren, Collin and Blake Tarno, Tyler and Braden Sell, Madison and Kaylee Kauzlarich, Owen, Avery and Landon Sell; her great-granddaughter, Veda Rose Tarno; many loved nieces and nephews that adored their Auntie Phontie, other relatives, and friends, especially her dearest friends Jeanne, Peggy, and Debbie.  Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Martha, Anita, Roberta; her brother, Tom.

Phyllis’ family would like to thank the staff in the intensive care unit at Aurora Healthcare in Kenosha, WI for their wonderful care and support.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family suggests memorials in Phyllis’ name be directed to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
