Jul 11, 1929 – Sep 11, 2007

Racine- Gerald E. Meier, 78, passed away at WFH – All Saints Medical Center, surrounded with the love of his family, on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. Gerald was born in Milwaukee on July 11, 1929 to the late Ray and Eleanor (nee: Dolke) Meier. He faithfully served our Country with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following the War, he went to work for various factories in the Milwaukee area. Shortly after, Gerald began his 30-year career with the United States Postal Service, retiring on June 1, 1985. On May 28, 1960, he was united in marriage with Dorothy L. Heidenreich, who preceded him in death on July 14, 2006. An automobile enthusiast, Gerald enjoyed following NASCAR. He also was an avid Packer and Badger fan. Above all, he was a proud member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family. Surviving are his son, Jeffery P. (Sandy) Meier and David G. Meier; granddaughters, Stephanie M. and Nicole E. Meier; sisters, Leone Hefter and Dolores Meier; and by other special relatives and friends, including his canine friend, Nahla. In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers, George Meier (who was fatally wounded in WWII) and Ray Meier; sister, Virginia (George) Primus; brother-in-law, Leo Hefter; sister-in-law, Irene Heidenreich; and niece, Mary Hefter. In accordance with Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Private memorial services were held in Emmanuel Lutheran Church for his family on Saturday. Interment, with military honors (conducted by the Krejci-Braun-Meier VFW Post – named after his brother, George), followed in West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Emmanuel Lutheran Church has been suggested. A heartfelt note of thanks to Scott, Diane and the entire staff of Willowgreen Assisted Living Center for the compassionate care and support that was so warmly extended during this last year of Dad’s life. We will never forget your sincere kindness and generosity.
