She was born in Great Lakes, IL on August 19, 1953, the daughter of William and Joan (nee: O’Dea) Tapper Sr.. Mrs. McGrain was a retried veterinarian. She graduated from the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) in 1977. She also owned and operated Home With Friends, Inc., a pet sitting service. On May 3, 1980, in Waukegan, IL, she was united in marriage to James F. McGrain. She enjoyed raising her dogs, cooking, and gardening, but her greatest love was for her family. Surviving are her husband James; their children Peter McGrain of Evanston, IL, and Christine McGrain at home; her mother Joan Tapper in Gurnee, IL; brothers William Tapper Jr. of Kenosha, Stephen Tapper of Gurnee, IL, Robert (Patty) Tapper of Johnsburg, IL; her very dear friend Pat Schmidtke of Paris Township. Our deepest sympathies to Jim, Christine, Peter, and family. We were very fond of Terri and will miss her, but we are comforted to know that her suffering is over. I especially appreciated her determination and positive attitude in spite of her illness which would have sidelined most others. Our 4-legged family was fortunate to have her care. We will keep you all in our prayers.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Bill’s service was beautiful, beyond belief. Leslie was priceless in all she did. Gary, knowing Bill for many years, said a few words at the service. The special touched I didn’t expect warmed my heart. Two very, very special people helped make a sad day into something very special.

Thank you to all those that helped behind the scene, setting up, opening doors. My heart is full.

Bless you.

Helene Hellesen
