John graduated from Marquette High School and Marquette University, with a B.S in engineering.  On August 8, 1953, he was united in marriage to Joan (nee: Girmscheid). John had been employed by S.C. Johnson for over 23 years. He was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and was a past president of the Parish Council. John was also a member of Sigma Phi Delta engineering fraternity, the Knights of Columbus Council 697, the Johnson 20 Year Club, a 25 year member of the Town of Mt. Pleasant Zoning Board, and a past president of the Manufacturers’ Association of Racine, and the American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He was a longtime volunteer driver for the American Red Cross. John enjoyed golfing, traveling, camping, and especially being with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joan; their children, Mary (Tom) Hauch, of Racine, Peter (Clara) Walter, of Muskego, Paul (Sue) Walter, of Racine, Anne (Dan) Gallo, of Kansasville, John (Lisa) Walter III, of Rothchild, WI, Ellen (Earl) Bednar, Liz (Andy) Kinzelman, Sarah Beck, and Emily Walter, all of Racine; 22 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Joan (Marlin) Schmitten, of San Diego, Jean Bishop, of Wilmette, IL, Judy (William) Shinkwin, of Milwaukee, and Janis (John) McDermott, of Endicott, NY; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Murray, of Franklin, WI; dear friends, John Buege and Herb Jones. His nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends further survive him. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Eric Bishop and John Murray.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 14th, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and in the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum Hwy 32. The family has suggested memorials to either St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or the American Red Cross.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to everyone at Ridgewood for their loving care.

Testimonials

November 13, 2019

I just can’t get over how beautiful everything was for my mom’s funeral. She had a rough last four weeks but your amazing team totally did her justice! I was pretty confused during that hard time, but Brian, you made sure that all the “I”s were dotted and all the “T”s crossed. For that, I thank you. I also would like to thank the amazing team of makeup artists. My mom looked beautiful.

Dawn
