Robert Frank Smitendorf

Aug 8, 1920 – Jun 5, 2014

   RACINE – Bob Smitendorf, 93, passed away at WFH – All Saints on Thursday, June 5, 2014.

   He was born in Racine on August 8, 1920, the son of the late John and Freida (nee: Lange) Smitendorf.  Bob graduated from Washington Park High School in 1939.  On June 22, 1946, he married the former Jacqueline Bryde Robin.  She preceded him in death on August 26, 2008. 

   Bob retired from the Racine Police Department in 1975 after 28 years of service on the force. He remained a longtime member of the Racine Police Association. He enjoyed being outside, working in his yard and playing golf.

   He is survived by his daughter, Diane Mainland and his grandson, Michael Sell both of Racine.  In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

   A private service was held in the Mound Cemetery Chapel. 

   Bob’s family sincerely thanks Harmony Commons, Wheaton Franciscan Hospice and the 3 Med unit at WFH- All Saints for the wonderful attention and service he received while under their care.

    Diane and Mike, We are so sorry for the loss of your father and grandfather. He was such a nice person. My mother is especially grieved by his death. They were very close growing up. We just found out about it. We both have fond memories of him and your family.

    Our family lived on Bate Street in the 1960’s and I remember the four policemen who lived on our block at the time.My mom, Ada Sattler, and I send our love and prayers to Diane and her family at this difficult time.God be with you.Pam Sattler Ehnert
