Mary Dean Gunn, age 64,  lovingly known as “Gudda” to many, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, surrounded by her family that deeply loved and admired her courageous fight with diabetes. Mary was born May 30, 1953 to Willie James and Claudine (Larry) Gunn in Okolona, Mississippi. Her family relocated to Racine, WI when she was 4 years old and she called it home.

Mary enjoyed fishing, dancing, spending time with family and having fun. Mary took pride in going back to get her high school diploma later in life, but she never let that hold her back from hard work and dedication to her employers. Mary was committed to Curtis Lee McClemore (LC), who preceded her in death, they raised several children together.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Terry (Selethia) Gunn, Anthony (Judy) Mundy, Willie James (Elaine) Hubbard, as well as her aunts, Denise Lampkin-Larry, Earlene Larry, Nellie Williams, and Geneva Larry.

Mary leaves to cherish her loving memories her son, Terrance (Amy) Gunn, her step-children, Walter (Twilight) Hunter, Stacy (Apostle Herman) Herring, Etter (Antovia) Booker, Susan Holloway, Birdella Famous, Carnell McClemore, Eric Judon and Anthony Parker, her grandchildren, Michele Thomas, Giovanni Holloway, Ronnie Ball, Dexter Ball, Quintin Gunn, Jared Balderas, Joshua Gunn, Brennan Wolf and Jarek Wolf and several great grandchildren, who will carry on the memories and life lessons she cultivated in them.

Mary had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.  Mary had fond memories with Henry (Lorraine “Cookie”) McClemore, Joe (Anne) McClemore, Larry (Deborah) McClemore, Booker (Caroline) Redman, Sandra Russell-Smith, Lisa Orr, Linda and Virginia Chambliss.

Mary has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, and joins her beloved parents, sister and best friend Patricia James, uncles, Willie Frank Larry, George Larry and Jackie Dean Larry and her aunts, Ruthie Dean Larry and Earlene Norman.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nikki and the Wind Point Villa staff for welcoming Mary into their family. Thank you also to the staff at Ascension – All Saints Hospital for the care and compassion they gave to Mary and our family during Mary’s transition.

Friends and family may join us for visitation Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 10-11am, followed by a service to Celebrate Her Life at Greater Grace Temple Church of God In Christ, 522 N. Memorial Dr. Racine, WI 53404.  Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Bill’s service was beautiful, beyond belief. Leslie was priceless in all she did. Gary, knowing Bill for many years, said a few words at the service. The special touched I didn’t expect warmed my heart. Two very, very special people helped make a sad day into something very special.

Thank you to all those that helped behind the scene, setting up, opening doors. My heart is full.

Bless you.

Helene Hellesen
