Judith Ann “Judie” Hlavka, 81, passed away at Seasons Hospice-Ignite at Oak Creek, on Sunday, September 5, 2021. She was born in Racine on February 8, 1940, the oldest daughter of the late Harold and Marion (nee: Johnson) Raiche.

Judie was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School.  On June 4, 1957, she was united in marriage to James Hlavka. Judie had been employed as a sales representative for Office Supply Company for over 28 years, retiring in 1988. She was a active member of the Catholic Junior League and served as its president in 1972. It was there that she developed a passion for helping those in need. She was also active in the Missions at St. John Nepomuk Parish, making quilts for third world countries. Judie also helped with the meal program for the homeless at Sacred Heart Parish.

Judie loved to cook, play cards, and converse with her friends. Her favorite card game was Bridge, and she became a Life Master. She also loved to cross stitch, and do crafts, which she sold for many years. She often spoke, with fondness, of her family trips to Lac Vieux Desert in Land O’Lakes, Wisconsin. Judie was an avid reader, especially murder mysteries. She enjoyed watching college sports, usually football and Marquette basketball. Judie also enjoyed listening to Barbara Streisand, the Beach Boys, and the Jersey Boys.

She was a person of strong faith, who loved serving others. A strong-willed and independent woman, Judie will be missed but not forgotten.

Surviving is her loving husband, James; their three children, Cory (Jim) McFadden, Kim (Doug) Foore, and Kelly Grant; five grandchildren, Amy Foore, Nathan Foore, Ethan Foore, Alex (Cailin) Grant, and Andrew (Kimmy) Grant; and two great-grandchildren on the way. In addition to her parents, Judie was preceded in death by her younger sister, Kathy Nelson.

Although it’s been many years since we saw each other, I’ve got lots of memories of the family gatherings when we were kids, especially Fourth of July parties at “Uncle Jake’s house.” Rest in peace and we’ll see you in heaven!
